I will reiterate... I find it really ironic that the "restored" episodes, have more goofs than the original versions.

I've already liked the video and I enjoyed watching it. Ya know something, I think we should all rather stick to the original versions of Series 1-3 episodes from now on, instead of the restored versions with re-edits and goofs.

I have been watching the restored versions for the past like 10+ years it's good to know the original edits of the episodes were better because I've always gone thinking the classic editor just sucks at his job

This most likely won’t happen, but I think Mattel should try remastering the episodes again for the 80th anniversary, maybe they can release the episodes in a special box set.

I feel they should actually take the original 1984/85 and 1986 masters and put them on physical media, the masters that have the original intros and outros, plus the original nameplate stuff. Basically just digitize the original airings.

The original footage of S2 with its gritty sets and lighting does make you feel like you're in the 1950s/60s (like in the book illustrations the episodes were based on). Then again, nearly every story adapted from the RWS do take place within the 50s/60s without the black and white footage.

What bothers me is that there's no way in hell these were done on accident. Whoever did these purposely put the wrong footage in.

Problem I think was they were going from a 4:3 aspect ratio to a 16:9 aspect ratio when restoring these scenes.

All the studio equipment goofs were actually from the people who were restoring it making the deliberate choice NOT to zoom in like the old masters. Honestly, most the time, I like it cause it makes scenes more fuller

While I prefer watching an old show remastered, I also kinda prefer it how it looked on tv. Especially since I watched Thomas on dvd and the quality is not the best but it’s how I watched all these years and it’s pretty great.

The fades are in the wrong spot due to the scenes at Toth station having to be used from the original due to the footage being gone, and the fades are in a different placement to avoid ghosting ( check the unlucky tug’s video on the differences between the episodes to understand furthermore on what ghosting means)

Yeah, funny thing they actually used outtakes For some really, really odd reason in some scenes. So that's why they will go past where they're supposed to in the original scene There is a horrible outtake in one of the episodes. It's so bad, but I forgot which one it was

I wouldn't say "miles." Most scenes look kinda dull compared to bright tint of the original master. Sure, the colour correction was an interesting addition, but I don't think it was an improvement.

You know, someone could do their own upscale of the episodes, using footage from the 1998 releases. They have the initial footage and restored versions graphics, so it might work.

0:45 not to be that guy but…I don’t think it’s background If you look closely, the steam is not going in front of it but rather behind it…When James goes by it’s more noticeable…like with the lens being present sometimes, I think someone for some reason put an overlay or something

Unfortunately, Mattel sucks... so most KZfaq uploads have been taken down. However you can still find them on DVD.

Most Thomas DVDs before 2007 use the original masters. The best way to get all of the episodes in the best quality is through a UK DVD boxset called The Classic Collection, which contains seasons 1-11.
