Do people not understand that West African countries are a recent invention... There a re thousands of people who were moving and trading with one another. Then Via colonialism they became countries but the people in these countries have to sharing DNA since the beginning. In other words all Nigerians have a mixture of different artificial countries in their DNA. That's what a Nigerian is...same with Ghana

My mother's DNA test said 68% Nigerian. Many are actually part of the scattered Tribes from the so-called Mid East/Israel (the original people from that area). However, you will also find a match to the Uganda area. Its quite amazing and humbling.

There's an Igbo who made a video who has similar results. People moved around. The past is hundreds of thousands of years old. Cameroon is right beside Nigeria, so of course some people could have moved from there. Same thing with Benin/Togo. All those countries are right beside Nigeria...and Nigeria's borders were created by the British...So you're pretty much just a beautiful Naija girl. The Ghana and Mali stuff is definitely real so you probably have ancestors from those places. That's not a bad thing tho.

DNA and its migration does not care of the name or culture given to land or regions named by modern day border makers. Differences of hundreds of miles is miniscule by migration standards.

If you remember, original man came from the Horn of Africa and then traveled north and west...traveling with the DNA from that region; being so long ago... possibly not detectable. People transversed thousands of miles to reach Nigeria over thousands of years... this would mean people on the way their and after...over a period of thousands of years... would have interacted...and the migration would have infused others genetic material, especially in single common regions. Signed: 38% Nigerian...also Ghana, Mali, Cameroon, South Africa, Kenya... Was born on West Coast of USA...family roots go back to at least 1852...slave heritage...Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing...enjoyed the video. I have to say....it is not about anyone lying to you; it is about history. No African is 100% anything, just like us African Diaspora are not. Many Africans are also mixed and have some sort of ancestor from a country other than the one they claim. First off....women from various tribes were traded, given away, married into other tribes and even kidnapped. As a result, tribes mixed and produced children. Any African who believes that they are from one isolated tribe/country is ignorant and misinformed.

You have to count Cameroon and Benin / Togo as part of Nigeria. The colonizers, carved the area that of West Africa that you are from into Nigeria, Cameroon and Benin / Togo. Many of the people living in those three "countries" are genetically and probably culturally the same people. Yorubas, Igbos, Hausa's and Fulanis live in all three of those countries. Therefore, you really are Nigerian. As far as Ghana is concerned, many people in Nigeria and Ghana traded and interacted for centuries before colonialism came to West Africa. Also, we as Africans, whether born on the continent or throughout the diaspora, we must realize that we are African and we must end tribalism and unite to build a greater Africa as a whole.

+Ormuka Ogar Happy Holiday andd thanks for doing the video. 2:30 to 2:50 I just remembered on the other one where I was asking you about that. I think a lot of people in Nigeria must have some kind of mutation or something, since so many of yall especially Igbo (even though you said you're not Igbo) have lighter complexions than a some African Americans who are racially mixed with white ancestry.
@OrmukaOgar
@OrmukaOgar 7 жыл бұрын
APgeneticgenealogylover yeah I do remember you asking about that and I hope I kinda somewhat answered your question but yeah maybe it is a mutation that somehow dominate in that area of Nigeria giving us lighter skin complexions
@apgeneticgenealogylover6601
@apgeneticgenealogylover6601 7 жыл бұрын
+Ormuka Ogar Yes, I like to look into that because there's so much that we don't know because we've been cut off for so long. I like to see how physical appearance, not just skin complexion but facial features, works. Especially with us who are diaspora because we are blended with so many ethnic groups in West Africa and most of us have white ancestry from the "peculiar institution"
@apgeneticgenealogylover6601
@apgeneticgenealogylover6601 7 жыл бұрын
+Ormuka Ogar I want to say one thing about the ethnicity results though. Not to confuse you or turn you off or anything, but everybody should know that at this point in time we are still in an early stage with the ethnicity because there hasn't been much data collected. Could you please see this? tracingafricanroots.wordpress.com/ancestrydna-regions/ This might be kind of hard to explain and might sound confusing. But you wouldn't show, at least right now, as "100% Nigerian" because the reference samples they currently have are Yoruba and some Igbo. So only so much of your background, which might be something else like the Efik people, would show affinity to those Yoruba and Efik samples, and the rest would get read as the other samples ancestry.com currently has. Again, that don't mean that the test is worthless to do, because there are other features (the relative matching and health traits in the raw data), that do make the test worthwhile. Just that with the ethnicity, there still needs to be more data collected (more full blooded people from different ethnic groups that need to be sampled) in order to make the ethnicity more accurate. I hope that doesnt sound too confusing.

+Ormuka Ogar At 3:15. You've seen now that there is more to the test than just ethnicity. Have you seen any interesting relative matches yet? Are any of the matches African Americans? Also are you interested in looking at the raw data for the health traits with promethease? I think that is important to know for whenever you have kids to see what you can get later and can pass on to them. Plus since there isn't a chain of custody or anything like that, there's no threat to your privacy and promethease deletes your profile after 30 days for extra security.
