No one mentioned it yet, but... Have tou noticed that the main melody of Murder B is played by violin? That's because murdered Nunzio Pasqua was violinist

Everyone loves Soldiers of the Sea, for good reason, but my favorite is Murder, because it's one of the only tracks that features a violin solo. It's probably unintentional, but I like to imagine it's the ghost of Nunzio Pasqua urging us on, begging us to realize the injustice of his death and the stupidity of his murderer.

The soldiers of the sea part has to be one of the most magical moments I've experienced in a game. The way you start from behind the walls, only getting glimpses of the creatures, to finally being up close to them and noticing the humanoid figures on top. Witnessing all the death and chaos as the sailors fight for their lives. All the while that music playing, so good. If I could erase my memory of this game to play it fresh again I would.

What makes it even cooler is how quickly the chapter happens. Soldiers of the Sea seems only around a minute or two max of real time so it's really impressive how quickly the sailors are able to pass out weapons and fight back.

I recently discovered the game And DAMN Lucas Pope did a really good job in lore-building You don't need to have seen every boring day on the ship to BELIEVE what's happening to them could, in some way, be real, you just barely "know" them but despite that the game does a really great job at making you feel bad for pure strangers on a cursed ship

Soldiers of the Sea genuinely provokes an emotional reaction, if you closed your eyes you might think it was about brave soldiers at sea or something But in the game, you see don't see soldiers. You see terrified workers, throwing themselves at these seemingly indestructible monsters in a desperate bid to save each other. In the end it was for nothing, but those were the heroes of this story.

In retrospective, it's kinda wild how in every "chapter" you get glimpses of the power the watch possesses, being able to research the deaths of other inaccessible corpses through another corpse, and how animals and body parts are also included in this "death replay", and how it all comes back for the grand finale, it makes it feel earned, since you saw all of that, you experienced it, and thanks to that it doesn't feel like an asspull power that came out of nowhere, just a character well aware of this power and setting everything up for someone to uncover everything. Also the moment you uncover the kraken attacking the ship and see it through the captain's wife (I think she was the wife) is easily one of the greatest "oh shit" moments I experienced recently in gaming, since I knew nothing of the game, well that and the abominations riding crabs was also downright terrifying

@@quadronaut well to make a long story short, my first playthrough was raw. didnt know what i was doing, just did the best i could. after completing it i _learned_ about the achievements, then went back and started my 3 playthroughs. one of them is actually to simply omit every detail and name, one of them is to get most of the names and details right but omit the supernatural elements (the kraken, the fishfolk, the treasure etc) which coincides with the ingame ending as well. has to do with the fates, 0 - 27 fates gets the first ending, 30 - 55 gets the second ending, and so after that you only need to actually complete each and every detail correctly, one time, to get all three endings, and achievements. (tl;dr - first playthrough i goofed, 2nd ~ 4th i did them properly, meaning i only actually got the names correct on a single playthrough)

even after all this time there's something about listening to the soundtrack of this game that just makes me feel discomfort i don't know why could be the knowledge that this stuff plays during what is supposed to be the exact moment a soul left this world could be the memories of being scared half to death by the soldiers of the sea and thinking that the lone spike we see in the lazarette window was the leg of one of the spider crabs waiting for some climactic thing where we open the door to it and get jumped by it, leaving the secrets of the obra dinn a forgotten tale as the inspector and the boat guy are killed by it could be the fear that this game instilled in me of "wow we really might not know of some things in the ocean like that" could be something else entirely all i know is that there's something about listening to this that makes my entire nerve system kick into overdrive and make me feel weird

Utterly phenomenal game. This is going to stick with me as one of the finest experiences I've ever had with a game, and the music plays a huge part of it. Like DizKo says, Soldiers of the Sea is my favourite part of the game... Just witnessing it, and that music.... utterly sublime moments. I'm so sad I can't just wipe my mind and play through the game again.
