I too always choose to watch with subtitles, in find that a lot of American actors mumble and make themselves hard to understand.

+spinaway Yep that's true. A lot of shows have terrible sound to begin with. Too much background noise, cheap mics in many cases are used and when they cast a few actors that mumble every second line, it becomes unbearable to watch. And what's with everything being so loud? I mean, seriously, I caught a show last night where even the usually unnoticeable friction between fabrics was enhanced to the level of the actor's voice...

I don't mind it, I Always use the subtitles because there's certain stuff that you sometimes don't catch when you're watching without subtitles.

it was the same with the Danish drama the killing, the original was much better than the American version. after the first five minutes you don't notice the subtitles.

Couldnt agree more. I'm an arab who speaks a little bit of both languages and the french version is just vastly superior.

Yes, it's pretty automatic I think it is more used than bonjour nowadays! This is crazy, I never noticed it myself but I actually say it everytime... You got me ! ^^ You got us! When we say bonjour, we MUST say "ca va?" it's automatic, I don't know if they do in other countries but in ours, this is crazy! ^^ Sometimes, a stranger does too !

I dont understand why people in france are so buthurt about talking english, when I was in disney world with my friends long time ago we came from the netherlands and we talked english they refused to talk back. no one is going to learn france because english is the language everone knows already.

In netherlans is only spoken in Ned, half Belgium the Nederlands Antilles ...and some like Saint maarten already turned to English! French on the other hand is spocken in 42 places ...if u count countries and French dependencies! I am from the Netherlands myself we have to learn english and then we have a choise between German/French 95+% chooses German because we are neigbours and because if there comes a time when you cant find work in the netherlands you can always go to germany and work there as a dutch man speaking german. you shouldnt write just something that comes on you're mind without having any facts. you french people take too much pride in you're language but you just have to accept that english is the dominating language like every country does. and in belgium almost everyone speaks dutch/french/ english.

sarah854r4h it is really worth it. Clearly the writers were inspired by shows like 'Twin Peaks', 'Lost', 'Six Feet Under', none of them French but the creators put the feel into their storywriting. Give it a go. You will only be frustrated at the absense of a follow-up season. Apparently, season 2 is coming out....I can't wait.

The key is to read the sentence as soon as you can, and then you can watch them act it out. Its much easier to take that way. i'm not big on subtitles but this show was amazing.
