In this video I find haunted shadows in my house. First I find that the shadow to a ball forms a star, and then the letter J....how could this be happening? What is a reverse pinhole camera and how could it be effecting the shadows in my house?

If we would have 5 light sources next to each other and every one of them would have different letters, then it would be possible to literally write something on the wall with shadows just by holding a ball in front of it? Or is is only works with one light source (aka. only one letter is possible)?
@nguyenkhanhhailinh1721
@nguyenkhanhhailinh1721 5 жыл бұрын
I don't think that would work, because all 5 of the light sources would be pointing at the same object, i.e the ball, therefore, the light beams coming from different angles would meet, making the shadow blurry and almost impossible to read It may work if you have 5 different light sources evenly spaced out a bit so the light don't meet, pointing straight at the same large backdrop and you have 5 different balls hanging in front of them

It's interesting what you said about our brain flips/reverses the image formed on our retina. My brother was in the Navy and took part in an experiment that had them wearing glasses that flipped their vision upside-down. He said it was weird as after a day or so, their brains compensated and everything flipped back to normal.

Yes, so to say the brain flips it is basically just saying that we are used to it

The rays of the sun are all parallel for our line of sights. The reason why we see the patterns from eclipses is because of the wave interference of the light rays, double slit experiment explains that but basically even if you sent one ray at a time you'd get interference and the distribution of the copies of light projections are equal to the wave pattern. And also it's the lens that turns the image upside down for our eyes and camera obscura only inverts without a lens if a) the object is bigger than the pinhole for the perspective, and b) the rays are diffuse so that they project based on the available angle to the surface (as shown in the diagram in the video).

Surprisingly, it works incredibly accurately. You can see the body take over the source of light very clearly. Almost as if it's a one page flip book, or a video on a piece of paper. It's a great method to use if you don't have the special glasses. Actually, I'd recommend it even if you do have the glasses because it's just so neat. I heard how to do it from NPR.

What if your ball is in the shape of a J/star. At what point does it flip or morph into the other shape?

That would have been cool is if he used an object shaped like one letter to cast the shadow of another letter. When the object was close to the wall, it would make a shadow of the object and when it was pulled back it would morph into the shape of the light source. Perhaps you could try this at home and make a few measurements along the way. I'll be the math behind all this would be very interesting indeed!

Ok, that was pretty cool. I did not know about the reverse pin-hole camera effect. Is this effect used for anything? Thanks for making this video!
