Here is another film of the tidal bore on the River Ribble in Preston, Lancashire.
Why? Because it's there...
This is a 2 minute film.
The River Ribble in Preston has a tidal bore.
Apparently the Ribble is one of only a hundred or so rivers around the world known to have a bore, a fifth of all these being in the United Kingdom.
So that is a very good reason to go and see it.
The tide comes up the river twice a day but the bore might not always be strong and visible depending on the height of the tide and the amount of water coming down the river.
It will be strongest twice a month on higher tides at new and full moons.
According to The UK ‘National Tidal and Sea Level Facility’ The River Ribble in Preston is one of only a hundred or so rivers around the world known to produce tidal bores, a fifth of all these being in the United Kingdom. A tidal bore occurs when a shallow river with a narrow sea outlet, situated on a wide, flat estuary, surges upstream against the flow of the river's current, causing the incoming tide to form a wave.
