Richmond is a great city but when I did live there I would have these random dreams about random people, old fashion dressed black men in suspenders and etc. With all the slavery and civil war I believe the city is haunted and some souls aren’t getting the proper rest.

the house on the rails next to the jail site is not a similar building or replica, you are wrong. It is a survived slave dwelling from old Manchester, and relocated to the jail site as part of the trail.

I read that it was a close replica of the Lumpkin jail house but the person that wrote it could be wrong. I didnt know there were any surviving slave houses in the manchester area.

I enjoyed your video As someone stated that old "slave quarters" was not a replica of Lumpkins Jail buildings. The Devil's Half Acre buildings did not look like this. That old house is what most say is the oldest surviving slave quarters of Richmond. Which is also incorrect, the house of an ex enslaved, Emily Winfree, she never lived in it as a slave. It was given to her by her ex owner in 1866 and the house use to sit near current day Commerce Road in Manchester, (South Richmond).

There was no Lumpkins jail during the TAST. Lumpkins jail became during the Domestic Slave Trade 1808-1865

how do you know your family was inslaved? did you research your family back that far? do you know who your relatives were past your great grand parents? most people dont. because of poor record keeping back in those days. When it comes right down to it most people could not really say they are related to a slave or not because the family records are lost. The 1700 was 321 years ago so I very much doubt that you have any poof at all that you were related to anyone from that time.

but you didn't go get your land back. you came from somewhere... that's your land, your roots, your identity. Without the roots, you're still a slave... an economic slave. you gotta claim it, again. if you want roots.

@@keetahbrough That is nonsense. Are you suggesting he buys a small field in Africa to confirm his identity? Where his ancestors came from, probably was owned by a chief who sold them to Arab slavers. They had no stake in the place they were born.

the traders did not round up Africans and force them on to their ships they were captured before the traders got there and sold by other Africans to the slave traders in fact the slave could not exist with out the Africans that captured and sold people from other tribes, the truth is the truth but when the story of slavery is told they always leave out that part. WHY?

Because it was Africans with hands made weapons vs Europeans with guns. If you can’t beat them you do what’s neat for the greater good. Let’s also not forget slavery has always been a thing but the inhumane way that African ppl were treated by their enslavers was not typical.

@@introvertedlibra Europeans did not go to Africa and capture slaves! the Africans sold their own countrymen! the Tribes had been capturing people for years and used them as slaves! then instead of killing the additional captured people they started selling them to Europeans and other counties, most went to Brazil about 70% as slaves! America was the only country to end slavery with a war! and 360,222 white men died from the North to end slavery in the Civil war! Black people did not die in mass to end slavery White people did! and the First slave owner the what would become this country was a Black man! there were many Black and indian slave owners!

Leave Africa out of it!!! 900K slaves with Africa, but when they took Africa out of the equation there was 4 million slaves that were shipped to the South. How did they add 3 million people not from Africa?? Slave breeding Industry built America!!! US Dollar was backed by Slaves made in America thru forced prego, rape, and incest, not African Slaves....American Slaves!!!

This is important history!TRUTH is Tobacco is why they kidnapped our ancestor= Matoaka(Pocahontas)raped her, held for ransom, even after we paid it!ALL this for the Powhatan tobacco recipe so England could rival Spains! My grandfather was her brother and he waged much war against the colonist in VA! We should have killed them all,as our Powhatan tribe did to the Spanish! I feel all this pain! Great video- Kenah (thank you -in Powhatan) 💔❤️

Actually African tribes did the kidnapping and then sold them to the Dutch. The Dutch took them to the Americas and the Caribbean and sold them there. Hope this helps

Your Grandfather? he couldnt have lived then!!! it was over 400 years ago!!! dont be stupid! do you know how impossible it would be to prove you are ANY relation to Matoaka? there were no written accounts of who was related to who in any Tribe! and even if you could prove it ( and you cant) it would not be your grandfather, it would have been 20 to 25 generations back from present day! your grandfather is only 2 generations back! stop trying to be something that you are not! it makes your look stupid!

@@ednakelley814 True tribes did trade slaves too but they didn’t practice CHATTEL SLAVERY. No one did until Europeans decided to make slavery black only and dehumanized the system of slavery.

Richmond was the biggest slave trading HUB in the United States second only to New Orleans. Richmond was and still is a very racist place. Most of the whites in Richmond today live very well off( middle class/ upper middle class) while most of the blacks live in poverty. Richmond is still a confederate city that has deep roots in white supremacy culture everywhere. Everything evolves around the white southerners perspective, Some example are the confederate statues on monument avenue. This is accepted by the majority of the whites who live there. The confederacy fought to preserve slavery that was the state right they fought for. After they lost the Civil War the confederate south started jim crow(segregation) and the Ku Klux Klan(Hate group) to continue to oppress black people. Everything in Richmond centers around white supremacy. People are a product of their past and their environment But it takes a special person to not be a part of the negativity that's going on around them,.. someone who is not a follower.

Have you visited Richmond recently? Yes, there are aspects of the city life that are still dealing with the effects of civil rights era, but overall it has become an extremely diverse place. To call the city a "very racist place" is just plain wrong. You are forgetting about the growing art and music scenes, to name a few.

@@kkeaglesfan7 diversity doesn't mean it's not racist. The system and money you use are made by old white men. The grid is stacked to give power to landowners, who make the decisions for us. white supremacy uses that system to stay overtop of everyone using this system. That's why diversity is encouraged in a white supremacist world , more slaves only we're now economic slaves and oppression and supremacy still exist but everyone gets SCHOOLED in it....we're now paid to subdue ourselves. you know money isn't real, yes? Thank you for your work, here. xo
