For me here in Kansas City, it was 3 PM on my local CBS affiliate, KCTV for the first four or five seasons, then 1 PM on my local Fox affiliate, WDAF for about the next three or four seasons and finally, 5 PM on KCWE channel 29 my then UPN affiliate.

This was my favorite theme song for a talk show. Too bad I was too young to go on her show back then and sit in the audience and get my life from being older in the 90s.

Me and cousin watched the hell outta Ricki lake back then. She used to say her favorite parts were the "talk abouts" when some of the audience members would sometimes clown the guests as with Jerry Springer back then too.

When Ricki lake first came on television, I think I was 21 years old back then. Now I'm 47 years. Where did the time, the years, the weeks and the months gone. I tell you what today, like and I'm being serious. Time does go by fast. in two more days we will be in September 1st, like I said today it goes by way too fast today. Time needs to slow down. Anyway I miss watching Ricki lake, her talk show was the bomb back then. Was she would start doing it again. But I know she ain't going do it.

As good as the show was back in the day, reboots are never as good as the original. Ricki already came back with a talk show a few yrs ago, yet it failed spectacularly because she made it more akin to 'Oprah' as opposed to what Ricki's old show covered. Ricki's new show was patterned after the 'Oprah' show, with all kinds of new age, self help topics being promoted and lots of celebrities. Ricki apparently thought she was too good to have on the same type of topics from her old school days. And because of that, the show bombed

@@kleeamd8274 It's because she was older and she didn't wanna do the same "My Man's A Cheating Dog" type episodes anymore. Who could blame her?
@kleeamd82742 жыл бұрын
@@MTCesquire and that's well and good and her choice. But to the loyal viewers of the past or even casual viewers or even people who didn't even watch her but just had common knowledge of Ricki Lake's old show and what it was like - for her to come back on years later and now try to cover serious topics or less sensational, tabloidesque topics, probably doesn't seem genuine It'd be like if Jerry Springer tried to do a serious show with health experts and psychologists and therapists and celebrities etc - people wouldn't take it seriously because he is so associated with the original show. The same could be said for Ricki Lake. Her talk show is an iconic relic of the 90's tabloid talk show era. Just like soap opera reached their prime/peak in the early/mid 80's - to the mid 90's (when the OJ trial cast the final death blow to soaps),the same is true for talk shows. Talk shows reached their prime/peak in the early-mid 90s - no other era had so many talk shows as that time period did. Donahue was still going, Oprah was at her height, Ricki Lake, Jerry Springer, Geraldo Rivera, Maury Povich, Jenny Jones, Sally Jesse Raphael, Montel Williams, Rolonda Watts, Leeza Gibbons etc Not to mention a lot of one-offs as during the 90s, talk shows served as a refuge for washed up actresses much like reality shows do now. There was shortlived talk shows such as Joan Rivers, Vicki Lawrence, Tempest Bledsoe, Carnie Wilson, Gabrielle Carteris, Marsha Warfield etc. So unfortunately for Ricki, that stigma of tabloid trash tv talk shows still remains attached to her as her show was one of the most popular and most visible of them all. She basically was second to Oprah as Oprah had all the housewives and middle aged to senior women while Ricki had the younger demographic - teens, college aged women & single,young adults (and even 'tweens - I was 11 when Ricki premiered and watched it, I'm now 39. And the oldest of her primary viewing demographic then, would be in their early 50's now) That same audience who had watched Ricki back then have now evolved into middle aged housewives and senior women and they remember Ricki's former show as trash tv and that's why they didn't respond to her trying to be a modern day Oprah because it seemed disingenuous due to the stigma attached to Ricki.
@MTCesquire2 жыл бұрын
@@kleeamd8274 It would be foolish for her to try to relive her old trash TV days as a mom in her mid-40s. You call it disingenuous, I call it growing up.
