Despite early rumors that hinted at a possible R-rating, Matt Reeve's "The Batman" is arriving in movie theaters with the expected PG-13 rating. But while the film has been cleared for audiences 13 and above, that doesn't mean that the movie doesn't delve into some extraordinarily dark places. Paul Dano's Riddler in particular is closer to the zodiac killer than the goofy, riddle-loving jokester of the animated series. And while the Riddler does some pretty unsavory things to various Gothamites in the new film, one scene in particular has left audiences feeling squemish. This is the Riddler scene in "The Batman" that went too far.

FUN FACT The Riddler had deathtraps and played mind games in THE ANIMATED SERIES !! The animated series Riddler came out before SAW (jigsaw) & se7en !!! I would say for the "LOOK" they went for a more modern serial killer styled updated HUSH costume ! The CALENDERMAN is more like ZODIAC KILLER ! Court of Owls will be a part of the 3rd movie cause Matt wants Mr. Freeze leading up to court of owls and Talons ! In comics Mr Freeze help court of owls keep their deadly assassin Talons cryogenic sleep /animated suspension (as cold is their weakness and makes them slow.... & that talons are like living dead who won't rot if put in cryogenic sleep). Talons later in future come after Mr.Freeze as Court of Owls see him as a major threat !!! But otherwise i would love to see characters like Mad Bomber& Grey Ghost, Proff. Pyg, Hugo Strange, Dr Death, Phantasm & Mr Bloom!

I love this Batman! It’s darker, gritty, and more realistic. It’s a young, inexperienced, obsessed with crime Batman. His personality is alienated due to him being consumed with being Batman. For me, this movie is among the best superhero movies ever. I'm a neutral fan, but I rate this one higher than most of the other Marvel films, with the exception of Infinity War and Winter Soldier, and in DC, only the Dark Knight can surpass this film. It's in top 5 for sure, but one things definite, the first 10 minutes of this film is unparalleled in the superhero industry. What an amazing entry, what splendid acting. This was my first Batman movie in theatre and wow it really exceeded expect.

I have mixed feelings even though I really liked the movie. On the one hand, Dano killed it. He has a talent for playing unhinged characters, and this was no exception. But I still think that this Riddler is too familiar. He is too similar to Heath Ledger's Joker. Both are deranged serial killer/anarchist revolutionaries who view Batman as their equal and seek to defeat him. It felt like a blend of The Dark Knight with elements of Seven. Just my opinion, but I think it would have been better to depict the Riddler as a brilliant ex-CIA intelligence officer with advanced tech as opposed to a creepy orphaned serial killer nerd. I just prefer to have a bit of distinction with Batman's various opponents.

I’ve heard that some people hated the ending, I personally loved it. It shows that Bruce is beginning to understand that being vengeance and instilling fear into crime isn’t the way to be a hero. The way to be a hero is to help people when they need it. He really begins to understand this when he unmasks on of riddlers followers (the man Bruce talks to at the funeral (I think)) and after being questioned who he is, he responds the way Batman does, “I am vengeance”.
@Traventity
@Traventity 2 жыл бұрын

I disagree that's where he "begins" to understand. It wasn't just the Riddler goons. It was certainly them and Riddler himself, but probably Selina Kyle more than anyone else. She's the one who openly questioned why he wouldn't help her kill [spoilers] because, as she points out, "vengeance" is what he is, what he's all about.

It still boggles my mind that Nolan flat-out refused to use Riddler and even went as far as to say that he's one of Batman's most unrealistic villains (well, I'm paraphrasing, but it was something to that effect). If anything, Riddler is one of the villains that is perfect for live-action adaptations. He's perfect for Saw or Seven-style scenes, and I'm so happy that Matt Reeves translated it perfectly into this movie. One of the most memorable villain portrayals in recent times for me. I guess that Nolan simply was tired of doing Batman movies back then, hence why he just went with Talia and a thug version of Bane. Too bad.

Just saw this Thu, 3pm. That scene wasn't bad at all. If at first, it felt like something out of Saw. Then they didn't show anything happen, it was only implied. The explosive going off around the D.A.'s neck was worse, I thought. Again they didn't show any gore but made it super tense. You see him struggling to stay alive riddle after riddle, then suddenly you see him adamantly choose death, rather than rat out the boss. It was jarring because that goes against our instincts as humans. You saw that subtle yet frightening switch in his decision.

Dano, in my opinion, played the most comically accurate Riddler throughout all of the live action movies/shows. He's more strategic, and doesn't make as many jokes. There wasn't a comedic relief from his Riddler like in most versions of the Riddler. He had everything planned, and even if there was a slight flaw in said plan, he took notice and immediately did something about it. The movie was absolutely amazing. All of the actors did an incredible job portraying the characters.

Nah, Batman is a hero that deserves to be enjoyed by both youngsters and adults alike, if it wasn't for that he wouldn't have been my favorite superhero since I was a kid thanks to Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan, they both managed to deliver a dark Batman but still not violent enough so younger audiences could enjoy it. You want an R-rated batman? There are plenty of comic books and animated movies which will suffice, in fact there's enough to spare.

*Paul Dano's Riddler is psychotic as hell. He is a narcissist, completely deranged, genius and defiant with Batman (who is originally from the comic book character). Probably in the next movie he will wear the classic costume. What scares him is that he's the most realistic version of the character, and he may exist in real life (although there are several that resemble him in some way. Like Jeffrey Dahmer or Zodiac Killer.)*
