If you own a Samsung phone you will probably need to factory reset it at sometime of the life of the phone. This could be when you are selling the phone, trading it in to the carrier or you have having phone issues and Samsung support told you to factory reset the phone. I needed to bypass Samsung or Android resetting procedure because I could get past the prompt that said "let's make sure it is you." What I wanted was the hard reset using the keys. Fortunately you mentioned it at 1:38. hold the volume down button and power button at same time for 50 seconds. That brought up the monochrome menu, #2 being factory reset. That worked. Thanks. (Backstory: I'm returning a phone to Assurant. I have insurance. Dropped the phone, cracked the display. Asuarant (sp?) did NOT repair the phone, they simply sent me a new Note 8. Paid the $99 deductible, bam new Note 8 arrived via FedEx. After backing up all my stuff needed to hard reset the old Note 8 before sending to the insurance Company. And that's the end of the story.) Bonus Tip: Make sure to send your old phone back to the insurance carrier. My new phone had an insert that said if I did not return the old damaged phone within 15 days it would charge my credit card $1500. Fook that. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those wondering how to do a hard keys/buttons reset, he mentioned it at 1:38. Hold the volume down button and power button at same time for 50 seconds. That brings up green monochrome menu, #2 choice being factory reset. WARNING: the hard keys reset totally wipes out the phone. Puts it back to the day you first got the phone, so to speak. So make sure that's what you intend.

Great stuff Brett . I recently had my screen and battery replaced and after I got it back had network registration issue . The sim was checked in another device all good . Excellent, this is better than volume up, Bixby button and power button as it shows more information about what you are doing.. One small point, it's true that it doesn't delete the contents of the SD card, but it's a good idea to remove any apps that are on the SD card before factory reset as remnants of apps still on the card that are being reinstalled after factory reset can cause unexpected behaviour and freezing. Sorry I was a bit convoluted there but I think you know what I mean.. Lol

Hi Brett! What about the FRP Lock? (Factory Reset Protection on Samsung phones). After a factory reset, on the first reboot, it asks you to sign in with the email that was used to sign into this phone.... how to get rid of that? The reason I'm asking is, because of I wanna sell my phone, the Buyer won't be able to set up this phone as his own, unless I give him my credentials....and obviously I don't wanna do that. Any tips? Brett I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 and it is flickering green . I have follow the steps for safe mode ,and also try to uninstall the apps which could be causing the problem. Then I restarter my phone ,but the problem is still there. Question should I do a Reset the settings or should I perform a Factory Reset. I do realize that I must backup everything, which I plan to my do via my computer. Would you give your comments.

Hey Brett Do you know why the app icons have a "backward arrow" next to each app icon on third party apps after: 1-a note 8 was rebooted with the power and down power button 2-then it entered into safe mode 3- then i restarted in normal mode i tried both restarting into normal mode with the notification drop down menu was in safe mode. it still had the backward arrow on the apps. then restarted with the power button but it still had the arrow on each app icon.

Tech With Brett Thanks for getting back to me... No I did not move the third party apps to the SD card. It started to have the backward arrow on each app icon after: a restart by power button and volume down buttons. The backward arrow icon maybe a "shortcut" to the app in the app drawer. But I don't know why a restart would do this. Does it sound like a factory reset will fix this?

Hi Julian, No it will not do your scan card, I just did it and it was printed at the end of what it lists that will be deleted and it says it will not do anything with your card...hope that helps!

I have a Note 8 provided by Samsung as a part of the Samsung Device Insights program. Factory reset is grayed out in the Settings UI and when I boot to recovery and try to do a factory reset, I get the dreaded "MDM does not allow factory reset" message. Do you know how I can factory reset this phone? Much appreciated!

What email do you have one your phone? Are you able to remove it?

The primary account was my @gmail.com personal account. Per another video I saw, I removed all of my Google accounts from the phone, but that had no effect. I think the problem has to do with the Samsung Device Insights app and it's ability to control admin functions on the phone. I've also read that you must deactivate the Insights app before it can be uninstalled, but clicking the deactivate button in the Google Play Store seems to have no effect.

So I'm having a problem where I can't get on none of my apps, they keep stopping or crashing whenever I try to get on them including messages and google play store. Also, my flashlight on my phone won't turn on either and it takes hours to connect with the wifi now. Anybody knows what I should do?
