@laminage2 жыл бұрын
Sadly he had some major problems personal and professional. He gave up his Rights to "Unchained Melody" and he lost a chance to make Bank when it was featured in Ghost and The Wonder Years. He was addicted to Cocaine and he also ran a Golden Oldies Style Restaurant. In 1981 he and Bill Medley sang Rock & Roll Heaven on The American Bandstand 30th Anniversary Special and they paid homage to the Signers who died from Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and the like. They are "Not" Brothers, they got their start when they were performing at Navy Bases in San Francisco and the Mostly Black Audience would clap and say "That's Righteous Brothers" and the name stuck. This was their Second Number One Hit the first of course being You've Lost That Loving feeling. Yet it was their Second collaboration with Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil. The Show they are on is Hullaballoo a popular Rock Sow from the 1960's where each week someone Guest Hosts. That week it was Nancy Sinatra who described them as two guys who did inspiring interpretations fo Soul Music.
@dawnaberry84522 жыл бұрын
@@laminage You need to do some real research. Bobby was NOT a cocaine addict! The night of his death, he and Bill flew in from L.A. Bill wrote in his book that Bobby looked bad. He said that he would have dinner in his room. Bobby had a huge appetite. Drug addicts don't eat a lot. When they found him, he was in his bed with the tv remote in his hand. No drugs in the room. Bobby had 95pct. blockage in his major arteries. Autopsy was a false positive. No one could perform, year after year for over 40 years like Bobby did, and be strung out on drugs. He he didn't pay attention to his health, was a heavy smoker. Bobby was tired. He needed to rest. Bill said that if he had thought that Bobby was hooked, he would have done something. You don't work closely with someone for over forty tears and not know that something is wrong.

The best male vocalists of all time - my opinion
@AliasMark692 жыл бұрын
“The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duet Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on an 73 key piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary. “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’’ was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century "Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965 Andy Williams Show (with his mother sitting right behind him) Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby’s use of “Runs” is masterful. He created the style and set the table that all others have fed off of for decades. 7 notes just to say the word “I” is melodic brilliance. Their name came from doing a show near a marine base in So Calif and a black marine said to them…. You two guys are Righteous Brothers. In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......

The Righteous Brothers is the name of their duo group. They adopted the name from some Black Marines who came to see them perform at a club somewhere in CA which they referred to them as the righteous brothers whenever they came to see them perform and had communication with them as well; so, they decided to take the nickname these Black Marines gave them as the name of their group, according to Bill Medley. He's the singer with the deep voice.

The Righteous Brothers got their name in southern California from some African American Marines who said "You Brothers are Righteous. Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield were not biological brothers. I referred to them as the "Blue Eyed Brothers of Soul" on my radio show. Too bad we lost Bobby Hatfield in 2003. They are back together and they still sound great with Bills' new partner Bucky Heard. I just met and spoke with Bill Medley last week in Laughlin Nevada. They are now in Las Vegas performing right now.

Actually, according to their biography, they were playing an all black club down near the marine corps base in San Diego. Originally, the audience, who were all black Marines, were shocked and angry because here were these 2 white guys that came on stage. Bobby and Bill were both afraid and didn't know what to do, so they just started singing. After the first notes, the Marines all got quiet and listened, and after they finished singing, some of the Marines stood up and started yelling that that was righteous, brothers, and the duet liked it so well that they just went with it. Originally, they didn't know what they were going to call themselves, but they liked the name, so they kept it. 🤣🤣💯

This particular video has a rather tinny audio quality; listen to the studio version to really be blown away! I believe that Bill is a baritone and Bobby (deceased) was a tenor, fyi. My much older sis (11 yrs my senior) used to hang at a bar off Sunset Strip that the "Brothers" (and Little Richard!) frequented, and she was always aflutter when their names came up, like 95% of the post-pubescent female pop in the USA...

One night a Black Marine shouted, "That's righteous, brother." A little later, Bobby suggested that they call themselves The Righteous Brothers," Never was a greater duo, never will be.
