Frosk was just the worst. "The Rant" was just the final nail in the coffin. People didn't hate her because she was "ugly" or a woman. They hated her because she clearly didnt know what she was talking about. Morgan Webb came off as a gamer. Her opinion held weight and she was respected. Frosk didn't know who Reggie Fils-Aime was. Even in the part of her rant when she said "im reading the same script Adam does", it was clear she didnt know what she was talking about. Adam may be reading the same script, but Adam was also a gamer with a legacy of being a true gaming journalist. (he clearly lost his mind and was revealed to not be a great person, but thats beside the point) The argument of "women arent here to be your eye candy" is true, but also not true. Olivia Munn was eye candy, and she wasnt the best source of knowledge when it came to gaming. However, she wasnt the host of a gaming show. She was the host of a variety show where it was her job to be attractive and funny. When Frosk did that rant, she lunped everyone who didn't like her into one group and said "you're all sexist and misogynists". Some of them are, but not everyone. Some people just want the host of a gaming show to be a real gamer, with real gamer knowledge. I didn't find Blair Butler attractive, personally. However, I appreciated her take on comic books, because she seemed like an actual reader of comics.

Adam turned into just the worst person you would ever want to be around

G4 was one of the best channels I have watched back then and that was how I learned about video game history and new games in general. Commercial problems for the first end while politics/personal identities really destroyed them. At least there are KZfaq channels that do it better. :)

I didn't know that G4TV came back, and while I didn't watch it a whole lot back in the day, I was excited to see something familiar returning. And then the first thing I hear about them was Frosk with her "sexism in gaming" rant, and I knew right then and there it would not last more than a year. Also bringing Amouranth onboard in a desperate attempt to win the fans, ironically made it worse because Frosks rant and the tweets defending her were still up at the time, which made them look like hypocrites.

Man, what a great channel. I used to watch G4 while doing my homework as a kid. I learned about Comicon from seeing it in AOTS.

Such a shame with what happened to G4. I was looking forward to the revival, now its gone. A relic in the past

I'm one of the few people in minority that that G4 should have stayed dead. And it's primarily because the competition expanded significantly.

I think G4 ahould of just been relegated to KZfaq. Everyone already reviews things on youtube. But considering the market is so oversaturated now i doubt it would survive anyway

I had no idea G4 even relaunched in 2020. It’s a shame i didn’t know about it because I would have eaten up their content, I have fond memories of coming home from school to watch AOTS at 4pm. Really unfortunate timing, 2020 was an especially sensitive year for identity-politics. I wish it came out this year, at least the main cultural zeitgeist was less CoronaTrump and more BarbieErastour. Maybe I’m just being optimistic -dammit I wish AOTS and X-play were KZfaq Channels.

They had one job:"Create content around video games. All they needed was men and WOMEN who knew what they were talking about." I'm willing to bet you there are several female gamers out there who know a thing or two about gaming while looking as average as Frosk does who would've loved to have been in her spot. But they chose Frosk probably because they knew she'd do what she did. What they didn't count on was it tanking the viewership.

I was rooting for G4 to be successful again. Frosk’s rant didn’t even offend me, but when she afterwards posted that “I SURVIVED” meme after a dozen of her coworkers got fired, even I said “why the hell would you do that. I can’t defend you anymore”

I was so excited when G4 came back, it was like getting a part of my childhood back…. Unfortunately it was just the image of G4 and not actually G4, they murdered it right in front of me.

I was excited for the return. Kevin came back! I was hoping they would pair him with someone that could keep up with him. After a couple of weeks they completely changed the format of AOTS and it turned it into a talk show like The View. WTF G4?

Wild coming back to this retrospective after what happened to The Completionist, the former host of XPlay. Moreso now that RoosterTeeth is dead. This channel truly was a "trial & error network".

Gaming, nerd, and internet culture was distinctly different then. A lot of these shows were a product of their time and were good relative to the expectations at the time. Now there is so much to stream or watch or listen to that it's like fighting an uphill battle to stay relevant as a show. An era is gone and what has replaced it has arguably lost a lot of authenticity and charm.

Are there any shows on TV or streaming platforms that are targeted at men anymore, the way some of the shows on G4 were? Seems like everything nowadays is targeted at both genders or at women - but nothing specifically at men.

My favorite ordeal from this whole disaster was when Adam Sessler would have his meltdowns soon after the shutdown on Twitter lmao. He was even accused of being racist towards Japanese ppl at one point from his older segments.

Frosk and Sessler weren’t solely to blame. The viewership before Frosk’s meltdown was already low. WWE stars that showed up cost more money than they were raking in from viewers. The studio they were renting was really expensive to furnish and the network president was never in the office. The content was mediocre at best, KZfaqrs can produce better content for a fraction of the cost. Pretty much Comcast saw the books and stopped this train wreck from hemorrhaging more money than it was doing. I believe this whole project was spearheaded by a son of a high ranking Comcast executive who saw how much work it takes to run a network then decided to back out of it.

G4 was best when it was a paid subscription service. It's funny that so many people's fondest memories of G4TV involves X-play when that was a show from the TechTV era (also a great channel). Once G4 merged with TechTV and broadened their scope from gaming to technology as a whole (and then later, to teenagers as a whole) the channel took a big nose dive in quality. The revival failed because they failed to bring back the original shows that made G4 so great in the first place; Portal, Judgment Day, Arena, Filter, Icons, Pulse, the cool bumpers in between ads, etc.

I used to watch G4 24-7...X-Play, Judgment Day, Cinematech, Blister, Cheat, Portal...and everything else on there! I hated the Tech TV merge cause we ended up with Cops, Cheaters and Ninja Warrior on repeat non-stop. I remember G4 the very first day it premiered and glad i lived threw it💯

G4 was amazing and I always tuned in while it was starting out back in the early 2000’s and before it started playing irrelevant nonsense. When it was just the individual gaming shows with Diane, Kevin, Morgan (never liked Adam), etc. Ahhh what a time to be alive…I was just a teenager

Shouldn’t have gone for cable when it returned. It should have tried to go onto streaming. That was a big part of the failure. I loved how when Frosk was yapping in the video, at 7:04, you hear “oh brother, this guy STINKS!” My friends and I will sometimes play that sound in our shows and we all crack up when it plays.

Its really a shame. The AoTS revival was 3ntertaining and i actually liked the direction it was heading with kevin leaving the show. Xplay was awful. It was an overbloated set for a show that didnt have a space in modern times (with many online reviewers, user reviews, ect) i didnt have a need for their opinions. Adam at sime point in his life decided to be unsufferable and hateful. Frosk was just a terrible host from day 1. I think there could have been a space in the content sphere for AoTS, and the will and austin projects. I also think content was better before they got rid of ovilee.

The summer of 2002 was peak for I was going into my freshman year in high school and I remember they would do this non stop countdown of the best video games of all time and run it like a marathon it was so awesome.

i really liked G4 back in the day, i grew up watching extended play, later named X-play and shows like Filter and Cheat! (or maybe cheatcoedes can't remember its name) which weren't mentioned here, its was shameful how it all went down

I think one of the main reasons as to why G4 failed twice was because they weren’t able to adapt and therefore, people moved on from them. To be honest, I don’t see the point in them returning when there are already more successful alternatives to them. That and also I don’t see the point in them coming be to television when most people don’t even watch it anymore, which probably did not help either.

Was the original ranting girl aware of this? how her company betrayed her moral code for numbers?

The new G4 was just so out of touch and all over the place with their messaging. they were making content catering to young boys, then you'd have Frost go on telling those young boys " how dare you for acting like young boys!. If you don't like us don't watch". Aaand they didn't. But at the same time they were acting all liberal and feminist, they would have videos featuring sexy girls in bikinis doing sexy things. I thank Frosk for her part for killing Red Dead Online. We definitely had to discuss sexism in the gaming industry even though the gaming community was already sick and tired of that discussion during the gamergate controversy. Thanks Frosk for bringing in a tiresome discussion about sexism in gaming, because we definitely did not earn to continue to try to get Rockstar Games to continue putting in proper updates to Red Dead Online instead.
