According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, about a 100 people are called each year by falling trees and branches. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, 16 people died in hot air balloon accidents between 2002 and 2012. So despite the story presented here, if you're unsure whether you should take a hot air balloon ride in near future - it's probably safer than taking a in a shady park.

Contrary to the title, I found this quite a good history of hot air balloons! The story about the parachute was amazing. I liked your little monologue at the end, about Icarus. Thank you for an informative, entertaining, and inspiring video.

So the original balloon was built as a way to attack a tower of sorts thus the French came up with the original Bloons Tower Defense

This was incredible! Of all things my boys and I got wondering about the history of balloons from watching an anime, Dr. Stone: New World. And here we arrived. Glad we did.

Flying too close to the sun with wax wings is about as dumb as lighting fireworks in a hot air balloon.

Icarus always had to do with the lessons of complacency vs. hubris, and the importance of keeping a sure path between the two. Most people who ever heard of Icarus forget he was also warned against flying too low lest his wings become too full of moisture and fail. Thus, the myth of Icarus is also a warning against trying to be too safe, itself a danger.

Alan Eustace jumped nearly 42 km's (with a drogue parachute, admittedly) just 2 years after Felix Baumgartner's 39 km jump.

Hey there, I watched this video as homework for a project im doing on possibility of early gliders, balloons. I wanted to ask you permission to use a one to two minute clip from this video. It would be the part that discussed peeing of the side of the balloon to lose weight... Freaking hilarious! I would put the link and your channel name on the whole clip as well as in the description. I really hope you allow me to, because it is integral to the story I am trying to paint on the incompetence and carelessness of early flight attempts. A HUGE Please and thank you. You do a stand up job with your videos, there is a true art to it. I've had my channel for the years, I believe and have few subscribe, 236 I think close to what you have. I will give you all the credit for that section and definitely would send you the link to the video when I finish. It's the hardest and most educational one I've done out of 70 something videos, so it's kind of a big deal to me to make it the best. I would never plagiarize anyone's work, so I am asking you out if total respect and professional courtesy for your hard work! I will share you channel with everyone that would like it as well, hopefully it will add to both of our views and subscribers. Sorry I had to send this in comments. I am that to reach you the only way I could figure out.

The title of this video is extremely misleading. There is actually very little content relative to hot air balloons. The title portrays the misleading narrative that modern hot air balloons are unsafe. In reality, modern hot air balloons are extremely safe if operated properly.

Loved the video. But allow me to rant about hydrogen. Hydrogen is so dangerous and still a man with 1800's technology made more than 400 flights safely. Ignorance and fear of hydrogen is really a tragedy. We can land a man on the moon but not make a gas inside a bag safe? Spare me. People love to point at hydrogen accidents in the far past. By that standard planes should have never been allowed to fly too. They are quick to dismiss 100 years of technological improvement. A accident happens with hydrogen? Kill the industry. Why not investigate like we do with regular airplanes? Find the truth and improve. That's how we made air travel the safest method of transportation, in spite of its dangers. With reason and logic. Blind fear of hydrogen is nothing but mediocrity.

I wanted to go to the beach, but there is so much hydrogen in the water, i just thought it would be safer to stay indoors.
