The rise of Rishi Sunak

Rishi Sunak is a money man. At school he loved economics. At Oxford he shunned student politics, preferring the university Investment Society. He spent his twenties in the City, with the likes of Goldman Sachs.
Becoming an MP in 2015, days before his 35th birthday, he used one of his first speeches to issue a plea to be careful with the cash.
Now just five years later he is the chancellor of the exchequer breaking all of those rules, spending unprecedented amounts of money to rescue the economy from the devastating effects of the coronavirus outbreak.
But who is the man whose briefest of spells at the Treasury has already lead to him being tipped as a future prime minister?
His grandparents were born in Punjab and came to England in the sixties. Sunak was born in Southampton to an NHS GP father and pharmacist mother.
As a child he helped keep her books. In 2009 he married Akshata Murty, the daughter of billionaire tech giant NR Narayana Murty.
He describes himself as British Indian, and when he replaced William Hague as MP for Richmond in Yorkshire he swore his oath on the Bhagavad Gita, a 700-verse Sanskrit scripture that is part of the Hindu epic Mahabharata.
Once in the Commons he quickly impressed. A junior minister under David Cameron, he went on to back Leave in the 2016 referendum.
In the Tory leadership contest which followed he supported Michael Gove, when Theresa May quit he took a different approach.
Together with Robert Jenrick and Oliver Dowden, two of his closest friends in politics having become MPs around the same time, they wrote an article for The Times Red Box backing Boris Johnson as the only candidate who could see off the party’s opponents.
Long described as Boris Johnson’s favourite minister, aides in Downing Street complain that they “can’t clone Rishi yet”.
The father-of-two stood in for the prime minister during TV election debates, proving himself more capable of sticking to key messages than his boss.
He replaced Sajid Javid as chancellor in February 2020, at the age of 39, the second youngest occupant of the treasury after George Osborne for more than 100 years. Osborne has tipped him as a future PM.
His first budget, delivered after less than a month in the job, was supposed to herald the great “leveling up” project promised by the Tories, investing in roads, skills and towns neglected for years, but was overshadowed by the havoc wreaked by Covid-19.
Each new round of economic measures he has calmly announced during the crisis has brought inevitable expensive calls for more.
But it also fuels speculation that he might one day make the move from No11 to No10.
Politics, in fact all of life, is too unpredictable to be sure what the future holds.
But you wouldn’t bet against the money man.

This is all planned my friend. This was no natural virus. Its been genetically mutated. And powers like America have been KNOWN in history for their biological warfare. Watch the ways they'll take more power away from the people through this. If not us, the next generation will really be in the thick of it.

What comes after will test his true nature. Its easy to spend big money to keep everyone afloat, what's more difficult is paying that back. There will have to be big tax increases and cuts to public services. I wonder if everyone will be as happy with him then

@@macklee6837 because some people are too dogmatically set in their views to take into account crucial context when it comes to the policy of an opposing party. As a Labour voter, all I can say is that I'm glad Sunak has rolled out this financial support package. It's a necessary expenditure during a period of crisis. Not every voter who opposes the Tories would be willing to give him that credit, however.

I think we are looking at the 1st ethnic prime minister in UK. This man puts the country he lives in 1st, not like the labour party. Corbyn, Diane Abbott, and many more are more interested in the citizens of other countries. Hindus in UK are in most parts hard working, do not cause trouble. I love how colourful the women dress, not morbid.

It's the financial conquerors of Britain who have implemented mass immigration against the will of native Brits. It has nothing to do with the British people who are being forced out of neighborhoods they've lived in for centuries, who's daughters are being mass groomed by foreigners, who's tax money is stolen & given to people who hate them, & who are rapidly becoming a minority in their own nation.

Chancellor Sunak, thank you for the unprecedented financial help although, being self employed, I have not benefited and it looks like I will not before June as per your conditions. However, we all have been clapping every thursday to show our gratitude to the NHS and Social Care staff who are committed to driving Covid-19 out of our and PM Boris' bodies...no conditions attached. In fact, because you did not provide them the money to buy protection kit early, many of them have died! So to show your gratitude to these people and their dead colleagues, I am hoping that when the time comes to give money to the NHS and Social Care staff, you and PM Boris will show your gratitude to them and give them what they need without any conditions attached because they have not attached any conditions to their safety.

I think he like Boris is a very charismatic man, very fair and loves his country above all, not like the stupid lefties of the Labour party. I am fascinated by the Gods in India. I met Sia Baba over 30yrs ago and he convinced me that although there are many fraudulent Gurus in India, the Gods always take birth in India, and God can come in many different forms.

Rishi Sunak should have simply sent, every adult in the UK (every UK citizen) who earns less than £50K a nice cheque (e.g. £375 / week or £1500 / month) for each week / month of the lockdown. The first cheque should have been sent out, on day 1 of the lockdown. This would have been super quick to administer, with no complex application procedures, etc. Everyone has bills to pay !!!

Read in the Times (05/04/20): "Rishi Sunak's move to give all retailers a 12-month business rates holiday has handed Tesco a £700m tax break at a time when its sales are surging." "Tesco is expected to report pre-tax profits of £1.9bn on sales of £64.4bn." An unprecedented response to an unprecedented situation indeed !!! In an economic crisis lets help the rich get richer!!
