I was on prescribed Adderall for 14 years and recently came off it, and I can see what an enormous difference getting off it makes in my ability to sleep well. I was not getting restorative sleep at all for the entire time I was on Adderall. And I think the chronic long-term use really effed my dopamine receptors, too.

Nope no excuses. I was born in 95 and I was involuntarily prescribed ADHD medication since the age of 7. Took myself off it at 18. Being disciplined about daily exercise, good sleep, and eating right will do a hell of a lot more for your mental and physical performance than a disgusting drug ever will. Absolutely no excuse to be taking these damaging drugs. Learn discipline and take control of your life.

Took it for a few months after being diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. Highs were high and the lows were low. Had to get off of it because my already “approaching high blood pressure” was skyrocketing. I could hardly fall asleep at night because I could always feel my heart beating out of my chest. It was the most uncomfortable feeling I’ve ever had. During sports it felt like my heart was going to burst literally. Ended up switching to Wellbutrin XL and I’ve been on it for 4 years now. I love it. Clear headed and focused, without the stimulant feeling. No high BP. No more low lows. For anyone out there diagnosed with ADHD. I would highly recommend trying Wellbutrin XL first and seeing if it works for you. Adderall is just so extreme and I’ve seen too many people get addicted and resort to other drugs. Obviously consult your doctor first though lol

I been on 25mg XR for like 3 years now or a little longer. I do have adhd and for me personally, I noticed that brain can kinda regulate how I wanna feel. At work I can get myself moving more and into that slightly more “drive focused” mentality if that makes sense. But if I take my adderall at home and don’t have anything to do, it literally helps me nap and sit still. This is not science or anything but just my personal experience after being on it for a little while now.

Vyvance is fantastic. I've been using it for about 4 years now(Adderall extended release for almost 10 before that, on and off), and I can say for certain: if you truly are ADHD, then it is a MUST. The lowest dose you can take, the better. It's the difference between being impulsive and not/less impulsive for me. Finding that perfect dose took a few months, but now I can take my 30mg vyvance everyday, and I can(and often do) fall back asleep(for much longer than I should be allowing myself to) on my days off, and then still able to sleep at a decent time. I had an echocardiogram a year ago, and my heart is normal, I have great blood pressure, and my anxiety has been under control- we found that paired with BUSPIRONE, I have the best results and feel like ME.

That's because for one, were taking extended release which lasts all day vs instant release which lasts 3-4 hours. Secondly, Adderall isn't the best medication to take as it contains levo-amphetamine combined with dextro-amphetamine. The levo-amphetamine primarily increases your norepinephrine levels which can cause anxiety and acts primarly on your central nervous system as it's similar to adrenaline (explains why you had panic attacks and couldn't sleep) vs dextro-amphetamine which acts primarily on increasing dopamine. Dexedrine which is instant release (lasts only 3-4 hours) probably would have been a good treatment for your ADHD.

I took Vyvanse in middle school at 25-30mg daily once in the morning & I don’t recall trouble sleeping - although I did have heightened temper - overall benefits outweighed the negatives ADHD meds gave me a space to fully apply myself. I also took aderall in HS at 40mg which is a strong dose of adderall. I did not experience the net gain I had experienced from vyvanse which actually a sister drug of aderall mainly tailored towards 17 and under. I stopped taking ADHD meds for almost 10 years between 16-24 mainly because I did feel side effects and I never really wanted to take them in the first place and did it because my parents advised me to do so. I did exceptional in school while on meds and off - although I’ve found with meds I am far more consistent. Anyways

I used to be a little bit of an addict and do heavy binges on something similar to Vyvanse and this was my routine to recover when I was done binging. Eating healthy, sleeping enough hours, getting in a good workout 4-5 days a week (start light if your body is weakened from poor sleep and diet etc). IMO these are the 3 staples to a healthy functioning body. Additionally taking some supplements can really help. Most important one is Vitamin B12 to reduce mental fatigue and brain fog, others that could help are Magnesium (helps a lot, especially with sleep), Zinc and maybe some Iron and Folic Acid (Vitamin B9)). And if you've been inside a lot, get some sunlight or vitamin D supplement. EDIT: And also what the guy above said! Stay hydrated (Gatorade can help for replenishing electrolytes) and keep the dose low!

@@vaxx5113 This is not true. Acidity affects clearing. Clearing happens in the kidneys. There is no direct line from stomach to kidney. Now off adderall and still on T and it is amazing how I feel, just use coffee, don’t even need the addy.

However, even at as low of a dose as I take, I can intuitively feel how quickly it would tear my body apart to do more than what I need. Have no interest in abusing my medication because even though I need it, and it's helping me immensely, it's some intimidating stuff.

I must admit, I do actually have ADHD (the impulsive behaviors, emotional dis regulation, task hopping, hyperfixation, etc.) and I take a full 60mgs of it everyday and it still works fine. I can take a random day off and feel back to normal me. My sleep has also improved on the medications and my entire life as a whole has been a lot easier to manage. Been on it for years now and got my vitals checked, with an EKG scan and everything came out great! The trick is never get so high a dose you become euphoric (I take 10mgs, 6 times throughout the day), take care of your gut microbiome, have a sleep routine, don’t engage in a ton of highly dopaminergic activities while on it and weight train on top of cardio. I mean, actually having ADHD, getting addicted to it, is harder than it looks because I’ll literally fall asleep if I take more than 15mgs at one given time, but withdrawal also just feels like I missed a cup of coffee. If you take care of yourself on your prescribed medication, there truly is no big worry about addiction or withdrawal.

Taking 5mg (instant release) and then another 5/7.5mg an hour or two later (but still early in the day) is the best way I find. Sometimes even get an afterglow 6 - 8 hours afterwards. That’s dexedrine though, not adderall so dose might be slightly higher for addy. For some reason I thought extended release would be easier to deal with but I’m still kind of getting used to it and figuring it out. Instant release seems much easier to control and more predictable.

This is funny coming from a guy who injects anabolic steroids or PEDs daily… adderall helps those who need it with ADHD. Adhd is a lot more than not being able to pay attention. Some with it also have naturally very low dopamine which results in poor performance in work, school, life. Yes, adderall can be very addictive and has its risks, but every drug has that risk. Maybe I'm wrong, because to be fair this is just a single KZfaq Short, but I don't think Derek is referring to people with ADHD, but instead to people using stimulants without ADHD. Because of how ADHD works, so long as you're taking the stimulants as prescribed by a qualified health professional, it shouldn't constitute abuse. This is because stimulants don't do to people with ADHD what they do to normal people. My medicine doesn't give me anxiety, it takes it away. I don't feel jittery or stressed, it makes me relaxed and calm. And it doesn't harm sleep, if anything it can actually be helpful in letting me relax. That said, the risks he brings up are still real, whether you like hearing it or not.
