The River and the Mountain
While flowing in the stream of routine,
a thought crossed the mind of the river,”
Will I flow like this throughout my life,
will I ever get a chance to stop and rest for a while?
She called the mountain, which was standing nearby
and shared the thought.
The Mountain started laughing and said,
”Look at me,
I am rock steady here from last so many years.”
The river presented a counter-reply,
“True, you are rock steady
and this is why you never look tired,
look at me, I am flowing with the time
and have no time to rest whatsoever.”
The mountain smiled and said,
“This is how you think of it;
I am tired of being rock steady.
Every day the same trees,
the same skyline,
sometimes I wish that I could walk like you.
Sprint like you,
Sprint like you,
to visit new villages, forests, and trees,
to quench the thirst of farming fields
and bestow life on humans
to become an apple of their eyes.
River interrupted,
“This is ironical,
you are leading a comfortable life,
still, you think like this.
On this mountain replied politely,
“No sister,
you should be worshiped by all.
You flow for the others,
after bestowing the gift of precious water to all,
whatever little remains;
you offer it to the sea.
This changed the perspective of the river; she touched the feet of the mountain
and spoke in a zealous voice.
"You have identified my role correctly brother;
the true objective of my life is to give life to others.
Thanks, thanks a ton!
After wishing her gratitude,
the river now started flowing with thumping sound.
Rock steady mountain also started smiling at the new found zeal of the river.
