In this video I use a texturing hammer and an engraving tool to create a unique ring out of Sterling Silver that I call "The River" because it looks like rocks on the bottom of a river bed.

I really enjoy your videos and I’m glad you’re back to posting frequently. I have a suggestion. How about doing a voice over explaining why you are doing certain processes for those of us who know nothing about jewelry making? What was the liver of Sulphur used for etc.

Thank you for the nice comments, I really appreciate it. I used to do more voice overs when I first started making videos but I feel like voice overs are more for instructional type videos, and since this is really only a hobby of mine I don’t feel like I am qualified to be a teacher so I stopped. I have thought though about putting more text in the videos to explain some of the processes for people who don’t know so I’ll start doing that more. The Liver of Sulfur is an oxidizing agent used to rapidly patina the silver to darken the low lying areas and make them stand out more.

Thank you for your beautiful video and nice ring! I was curious to ask: isn’t the metal bowl giving a copper patina to your silver? I am talking about the one in the middle between the pickling solution and the water. Does it contain salt and vinegar? Thanks.
@randysmithfabrications2731Ай бұрын
No, it contains baking soda and water and it’s used to neutralize the pickling solution. It does strip surface copper away, which is why the water turns blue but that’s a good thing because it brightens up the silver.

Hi. Terrific video. I have a texturing hammer like that but it didn’t come with that particular screw on attachment. Was this one you had to purchase? Also, did you use a particular attachment for the Foredom to stipple around the circles? Thank you.
@randysmithfabrications27314 ай бұрын
This particular hammer doesn’t have interchangeable heads like you are describing, I bought it as is, but I know of which hammer you are talking about. I think I ordered my hammer on Amazon but I can’t remember exactly, sorry. The stippling I’m doing is actually not a Foredom attachment, it’s an old school metal engraver I got from my dad. It’s what he use to use to engrave our names and phone numbers on our bicycles when we were kids. Hope that helps, good luck.

Were you "depletion guilding" at the start to get the bright fine silver to the surface?
@randysmithfabrications273124 күн бұрын
Not at the beginning no, I was annealing. The metal must be annealed as it is stretched and worked. Depletion guilding is typically done at the end right before polishing to bring out that fine silver as you said. Hope this helps.

Seen several of your ring making videos. Beautiful work. But there’s no information about pricing. No web site info. How would some one purchase or order such nice jewelry?

What a beautiful ring! What kind of burr did you use to add the rough texture around the Circles please?
