queerbaiting is a marketing technique where companies use LGBTQ representation to attract queer viewers, but then never actually depict any representation. queerbaiting is NOT “pretending to be gay” and accusing someone of this can be extremely harmful. instead of pressuring people to come out just appreciate that elements of queer culture are slowly becoming more normalized. the term queerbaiting should only be used for corporations NOT PEOPLE.

@@clouded5667 the term “queerbaiting” only refers to a marketing strategy, real people cannot queerbait. i’m not sure about the person you’re talking about, but even if they’re taking advantage of queer people they are not queerbaiting, they’re just a shitty person ig. in this specific case, the problem lies with people accusing others of queerbaiting, because by doing so they are demanding proof of someone’s sexuality which is 1. none of their business and 2. forcing people to come out when they may not be comfortable. while it’s incredibly harmful to take advantage of the LGBTQ community, forcing someone to admit their sexuality is equally as bad.

You cannot dictate nor judge an individual's sexuality and calling a single person's sexuality "queerbait" is a form of judgement.
