A documentary by Lulu Wilson.
Lloyd Wilson purchased the 1969 Plymouth Road Runner new on May 12, 1969. Lloyd raced the car in SS/BA until 1974, when he sold it to raise a family and grow his business.
In 1992 he and his son found the car and were able to buy it back, driving it one and a half hours home.
The car was driven and enjoyed for a few years before being placed in storage. But, in 2015, his son contacted Roger Gibson, whom Lloyd had befriended, to perform a world class OE restoration as a surprise for his father.
Lloyd passed away May 11, 2019, shortly before the restoration could be completed. However, the pictures and videos gave him tremendous joy during the last months of his life.
A big thank you to Roger and his team!

My Pop hated me with my brand new '69 RR. Fast forward 44 years I bought another one (a twin) and he loved cruising to all the shows we went to ,and we just about lived in that car .He passed in 2008 just shy of 98 years old and when I picked him up from the hospital that one last time ,he cam home in our Road Runner. He told all the nurses he was so happy I picked up in OUR hot rod. Loved this story ,really hit home. Thanks for sharing

I inherited my 74 birthday yesterday. In 1969 at 20 years with the help of my father I purchased a 69 Road Runner, first stop was a Sunoco station and the journey began. I raced, cruised showed off. The usual modifications more racing culminated with turning the RR into a full blown show car. Towed everywhere only to sell it to help pay for college 😂 On my 72 go around with time the surprise of my life happened. My wife along with help from my car nut neighbor found and purchased a 69 383. A driver but perfect in my opinion I smile looking at it, the plan was to help me live longer as I have stage 4 cancer, it’s working!

This brings mimers my way also, I bought a new 1970 Roadrunner when I was 18 and I’m in my 70s now and to this day I really do miss that car. I had pictures of the car and some time in the process of a divorce I had lost those pictures but I do have a model car of it and a metal sign of it. Yes I totally understand about your father and his car, I got married and traded that car for a pickup which I needed at the time and almost every week there is something that reminds me of that car now they are worth a fortune. Please what ever you and your family decide to do in life please do not sale that car money can never bring back the memories of your dads car which is now yours and you will always be happy that you have something that brought your father very happy memories. God bless you and your family for the memories.

Dad worked for Illinois Central RR for 43 years started in '59', in '70' he bought a Road Runner and they were made in St.Louis at the Fenton plant so he may have hauled that car when it came over the river to the IL side. I do remember he'd sit me on his knees I was 5 at the time and car had power steering so it was no problem for me to steer but couldn't reach pedals, probably a good thing at the time, I remember getting the key and starting it, still remember the feel of the ignition. He sold it a few years later and man was I unhappy no more meep meep. I wish I could find out if that car is still out there. If not I'm still gonna acquire one, hopefully in the very near future. Dad passed in '13' he'll have the first ride at shotgun. Car was the same color as your A12 and Road Runner and Bird on door too

69 Roadrunner is still my favorite. Had one in high-school in 78. Sold it in 81 when I was away in the Army. Never met the buyer. Wish I had it now. B5 4 speed 2door post car, not an A12 but was my baby. Hope to find it some day. Sold in St. Charles Missouri.

Thanks for such a wonderful story. I too have an almost Roadrunner. A 1970 GTX. I have owned it since 1980. It has gone with me to every house I have lived in since then. Last year I decided to restore it. I am retired and have only limited funds to work with. But I have rebuilt the 440 and put it together a little better than stock. Rebuilt the 3 holleys and it starts and runs great. Rebuilt the front and rear suspension. Rebuilt the brakes all around. Painted the fire wall and under carriage. It is awaiting a rear floor pan and trunk pan to be welded in. But I am happy with the progress and hope to be driving it next summer🤞. So I sure do feel this story all the way into my heart. These cars are just steel and rubber. But my kids came home from the hospital in this car and they went to their first days of school in this car. Memories we are reminded of each time we sit in them. Thanks for allowing us to watch your Dads story.

Your dad is three years older than I and I can say it was so much fun growing up in the '50s/60s when the great mechanical mastodons roamed the land. I too owned a 1969 Plymouth GTX 440, 4-spd, and still, I reminisce about those days gone by good times for sure for street/strip racing these cars... it seemed it just was the thing to do then so much so even the factories were involved! Competition wasn't a nasty word then!

Well if I didn’t share my feelings about your story I would be doing you all a injustice-first off - THANK YOU-!!!!! your two main characters in the story were of great value and shined the very best when it focused on your relationships with Dad and family-truly the only point you that fell on deaf ears was when your said about that Dad would probably still want to race it-WELL OF COURSE HE WOULD-!! MOPARS we’re meant to be driven-Never a trailer Queen or Museum piece but always KING OF THE HILL tested and true thanks also for sharing your Dad wasn’t perfect here’s a secret that I can share with you Not Many Are but he sure would be proud of how his family has come together and shared his life story-!!!! hats off to all who took part in doing so and again a Big Thank You

In 69, I got a 69 Roadrunner 383, red blk strips down hood, a nice Car, I raced but not too strong, traded in that Roadrunner for a 69 GTX, same color, same everything, but the power curve was unreal that 440 w/650 carb, hookers was all you need, man it would run, so I,m right with you, oh yea I was a Jr. in high school.Damn all of my friends had Dodges or Plys..............BB

I never liked the grilles of these years. The 70 just looks SO much meaner than the 68 or 69 but one can ALWAYS just switch out the grilles. The tail lights I won't mess with however as they're really cool. But I REALLY like barracudas too.
