Wonderful tour. I haven't been in the 'Oak' since 1960 when I played piano with the 'Dragoons' on that stage. There were lots of tables in those days plus the 'wives table' near the stage for the groups girlfriends. My future wife sat there. Henry was landlord at that time and the group was Bill Lees, guitar, Mick Swift, drums, Joe Kilroy lead singer/guitarist and myself Lawrie Goddard on piano. Shame the old grand piano isn't still there.

Very interesting. When l look back and think of the times l used to call in for a pint after work, the landlord then was a lovely man. His surname was Brenner. I worked across the road on the corner of Beaver Street where the chiropractor is now MEMORIES OR WHAT!!!

Nice old chap...how Oldham used to be. You wouldn't think any pubs like that still existed these days. The past 10 yrs or so, things seem to be getting either modernised beyond recognition into "flats", or torn down altogether....

Hi Sarah Been in there many times I never knew about the function room. I remember back in the day the horse racing tipster from the chron used be in there a lot he was called Keith Mchugh I think.

When was 16 back in 1983 me and my mates used to meet up there to start our weekend pub crawls around town. We would hang out in the pool table room. I Emigrated and haven't been in there for over 35 years and that room hasn't changed one bit, though I do remember a juke box mounted on the wall. I wouldn't be suprised if my chewing gum is still stuck under one of the seats

I wonder if the pub was built to serve the Irish ‘Navvies’ that built the Railways, Canals & Mills. ‘Hibernian’ means someone or something that’s Irish or from Ireland.
