I was a teenager in Argentina's darkest years when I bought their first album because I kew it was produced by Robert Fripp, and I was sort of fan of King Crimson. It sounded so weird at first that I said to myself 'What the hell is this...?' One of my best music purchases ever. I loved it so badly!

And I bought the first album in the UK, thinking they must be a Punk band. (I thought Roches must be short for cockroaches). Wow, did I get a beautiful surprise!

It's really sad that The Roches never seemed to come together with a television host good enough or even worthy enough to match their wit and cleverness. Having seen them in concert many times, and hearing their hilarious banter onstage, they certainly deserved better treatment than they often got on television.

What would a "good television host" do to make their crappy, forgettable music any better?

@@carolsikkema7136 "Negative Nellie"? You want "negative," just read any page of Roches lyrics. If you can get past the crappy music, you won't get past the self-absorbed "Debbie Downer" lyrics. No wonder they never went anywhere. Like most self-absorbed people, they're a legend in their own mind.

@@shootfirst2097 LOL bad take big boy I'm disappointed in you and im SUPER important. The only Debbie Downer in this conversation (and believe me i've searched high and low, left and right) is YOU sunshine. Thinketh before thou speaketh above all when thou speakth claptrap.

@@kingofmayband Only cucked, beta fanboys like you defend this dreck. Cream rises to the top, and this trio isn't even nonfat skim. But keep hoping for their comeback concert at the Park Ridge Community Center You'll be the only one there. FAIL

I love how the song "Big Nuthin'" is kind of a comment on this whole TV appearance.

My fave Roches tune by far. As a King Crimson devotee I owe it to Rob't. Fripp for pointing me towards them.

The interviewer did such a terrible job! Yikes! I love the way the sisters answered him. I hope they're well these days. Their music has carried me, my daughers, and my grandchildren 🥰

I always thought the chord changes and melody sounded Elliott Smith like. Was the Balled of Big Nothing is referencing this song?

it was their SNL appearance in 1978 (?) that inspired the song.

The host, comedian George Miller was an old friend of Letterman's. He was dreadful, not funny at all.
