Cryrell only kills ghosts with no guardian. Important distinction to make.

After the final shape, meeting Cyrell and giving him closure on the enigma that is the light and darkness, traveller and the veil, would bring him some closure on an existence too overwhelming for him. I can understand his thought process, living a life and being thrust into another one that robs you of the first is beyond what some people want to go through.

shayura also had a body count of guardians on her but she targeted users of darkness specifically

Kinda a missed opportunity that we've never had a guardian villain in-game.

There's also Briar, though that one's a little more up to speculation. She was a solar titan warlord in the dark ages, Nezarec kinda haunted her and drove her mad until she killed her ghost and clawed out her own eyes, then when Mykel found her she became an acolyte of nezarec and accepted the darkness. Idk what happened to her after that though

To clear some things up: Every ghost has a target guardian, even if they don’t know who it is specifically before they find them or they have a few suitable revives they can come across and do so. The lore doesn’t really distinguish. That being said, there have been multiple lore entries in which ghosts have exhibited vicious or even violent behaviors, not directly in action but in what they say and if they make their guardian do something. Even the Drifter either still does or used to say “I used to know ghosts who’d kill you for a blue engram”. So to say that ghosts are entirely good just because they’re from the traveler is a false belief in the first place, if the ghosts who went hive weren’t proof enough. Therefore, Cyrell is less a guardian killer like Dredgen Lore and more a figure too obscure to properly judge. He could kill the ones who deserve it because of what they might do. He could just do it for the simple reason mentioned.

Just give us a rogue guardian faction as the main villain group in a DLC already bungo. Enough Light Vs. Dark. We need Light vs. Light

Im hoping in D3 we can get more lore and story focused around rogue guardians i think the guardian vs guardian concept could be awesome imagine we bit the witness stop the final shape then guardians that still seek battle or war and cant stand the peace after the stopping witness and thus a faction of enemy guardians become the antagonist that would be cool

I'm honestly amazed a madman like Cyrell, infamous for murdering unclaimed Ghosts, hasn't been made a prime target to be hunted down by Shin Malphur. Cyrell seems to be a villain on par with if not even worse than Dredgen Yor, considering he's murdering Ghosts with no hopes of defending themselves. This really feels like a narrative Bungie should pursue, especially with Micah-10 now formally introduced and Shin just waiting in the wings to make a return, or perhaps a first time appearance.

one of those moments of like... sure you can be scared or fear a guardian using darkness but man there are so many cases wear guardians have gone evil or rogue just with using the light to.

I know everyone's talking about these things not being in game, which I agree sucks. But it's building the wider universe of lore like this that makes me excited for other media. I'd absolutely love to see a story like this in a TV series or something. Even if it was animation

I believe that Cyrell's kills are 'mercy kills', where he only kills unmatched ghosts that have been alone for centuries at this point. Because some of the ghosts that have been guardianless for centuries are a bit...crazy at this point

We need to start interacting with the likes of rezyll azir, and going into the stories of characters such as andal brask. There are probably hundreds of characters only mentioned in lore tabs, that play massive parts in the story. This game needs a TV series, hopefully sony can oblige

We have all these crazy cool stories that feel grounded and realistic given the context and environment. And yet we’re never shown or told any of it in game.

I feel like destiny could have been similar to the messaging in dune to blind faith in heroes by having the darkness being the morally honorable side of the cosmic forces and we would slowly learn how the lights true purposes were lies to make it seem righteous by intrinsic nature. In the end we would be the ones to destroy the traveler. SUPER NOT a storyteller here but I think it'd be a cool message to explore as beings that live primarily by the nature we were born to.
