How cool for the Stones to go into Texas and do a song especially for Texans. You can tell Mick was slightly out of his comfort zone, which made this all the more awesome. They nailed this song. Just because Woody's playing well doesn't mean anyone needs to slag Keith off; it's not a war. Actually, playing country lead alongside a steely takes a fair bit of know-how and his Keithness is doing a fine job. They recruited Ron for his similarity to Keith and his character as well but what a bonus it was getting a good steely? I've loved his work on this instrument since "Sweet lady Mary" and "mandolin wind".

I was in the park that night. This was just an electric and magical moment-the shock of recognition that ran through the crowd was incredible. Sure, it’s ragged and under-rehearsed, but that wasn’t what mattered. It was a tribute to Bob, Waylon, and the Lone Star state and a chance to see a song they will never perform again.
@cguzelli1
@cguzelli1 2 ай бұрын
Love your line ragged and unrehearsed, but it didn't matter. The audience loved not only mentioning Waylon, but Willie Nelson. To a man, the Rolling Stones appreciated those who came before them, are truly students of their music and that respect shines in this performance. Remember they wouldn't play an American TV show unless it was agreed that Howlin' Wolf did the opening for them.

So many people in this comments section like this song, but have ZERO clue of the absolute legend, Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys. The man who changed country music FOREVER. To this day, still one of the most influential acts to ever hit airways, especially in the 40's to the 60's. Almost every country star pre 80's had a direct influence from that band, and pretty much every country legend had sang at-least one of their songs. Edit: An unknown fact, Bob Wills was the first man to ever sing an "ab-lib" on a record. His famous "Ahh-haaa". Still in the modern era, millions of songs use ab-libs like rap music. Bob did it first.

This has got to be the last surviving "British Invasion" Band,! This is especially true when you consider they have never broken up or retired, and they still have 3 out of 5 original members. Love them or hate them, you still have to give them kudos for still being able to rock it in their 70's.

... "Grown Up Wrong", "Dear Doctor", "Prodigal Son"', "You Got The Silver", "Sweet Virginia" ... The Stones always made the odd excursion into country-oriented music and made it work. The late '60's was a time in their career when they really began to get into it when they recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama. Too bad that Ricky Nelson was booed off the Madison Square Garden stage in 1971 while performing The Stones' "Country Honk". I think that The Stones' success was partly due to their never being purists with their music, although their long suit was always the blues.

I'm sorry that I can't comment so objectively about The Stones' country music because apparently country music generally is just not for me, with the exception of "Wild Horses" which I really love. I really tried but could never take to country music, and I've been trapped in a situation with more than enough exposure to it to develop a taste for it, but for some reason it never clicked for me. Thanks.

Shirley Ford you got a right to your opinion..I listened to Waylons live version and his vocals were not that great ..sadly Waylons voice live wasnt that good after he was about 45,his band was really good and basically carried his diminishing performances as the years went by......furthermore Mick being able to sound authentic ls amazing considering he has a English accent and being live at age 61 at this performance is amazing .Dont get me wrong i love ole Waylon but his Live performances sadly had peaked and were in decline by his forties..Jagger on the other hand will be 75 july 2018 and The Rolling Stones in concert are still Excellent and still drawing Huge crowds getting Top prices .
