Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were partying at Keith's country house during a thunderstorm and saw Keith's gardener Jack outside doing something in the yard, so . . . Jumping Jack Flash was born.

Back when rock and roll music had swing and people could dance to it. It was basically party music. Huge reason why it was so popular. As good as the heavier stuff can be, all one can do is headbang to it. You can’t really ask a girl to dance to a hard rock or heavy metal song.

Yep. A solid R&B band repackaging and reintroducing American blues back to America. Some of their hits prior to 1968 were raucous and risqué but after doing time for drug possession, and Brian’s waning pop influence, and Keith’s rocking influence emerging, the Glimmer Twins had a rebirth. A darker, dirtier, jaded rebirth. Jumping Jack Flash was the rocket taking them all the way to 1981 (maybe 1983).

This particular rabbit hole may go on forever, since they've put out music since the 60s. Particular songs (my personal bias) for the 60s-80s era: 60s: "Let's Spend the Night Together" "Honky Tonk Woman"; 70s: "Dance Little Sister" "Shattered"; 80s: "She's So Cold" "She was Hot" These don't even remotely scratch the surface of their catalog.

the thing with the Stones and especially the Beatles is that they evolved over time - musically the Beatles of 1963 was not the same band as the Beatles of 1970 and the Stones have had several changes in personnel in the past 60 years. personally I always preferred the Stones purely from a rock and roll point of view but the Beatles' song writing skills were on another level and weren't always designed to put you in a party mood. a couple of Beatles songs that you might enjoy (being more upbeat) Day Tripper, Paperback Writer, Get Back, Back in the USSR

There is a movie with Whoopi Goldberg "Jumpin' Jack Flash" from the 80s that is hysterically funny. This song is used in the movie. I'll never forget her being on that dock at 1 am walking around talking to herself. What am I doing here. I might as well put a sign on my back that says "Victim Here". LOL

If this song makes you happy, then you have not been listening to the lyrics too closely. Jumping Jack Flash was a gardener who told Keith Richards about his difficult childhood but it was all a gas. The Stones were all about the Blues. The Beatles were all about pushing the boundaries. Compare their early songs that were pure pop to later work like Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt. Pepper and you will see a very definite evolution. Not so with the Stones. Their style changed very little but the changes that were evident came mostly because of the guitarist next to Richards. Brian Jones was a multi instrumentalist as you can hear in Sympathy For The Devil. Mick Taylor was a gifted guitarist who made all the difference in songs like Angie. Ron Wood is a support player. Since he is there, nothing very new or exciting has come from Jagger/Richards.
