This one is a masterpiece. I'm SO glad you got a chance to hear it. Gritty vocals, stark message, to a backdrop of this angelic boys' choir -- there's something ironic and funny about that. It's unforgettable. Even today, people still quote this song: "Well, like the 'Stones say, you can't always get what you want.'"
@TheAustinKendall
@TheAustinKendall Жыл бұрын
I still love the reference and usage of it in the show "House M.D.". He says something like "as the great poet Mick Jagger once said, you can't always get what you want" to his Dean of medicine Cuddy in the first episode. At the end of the episode she says something like "you know I looked into that poet Mick Jagger and you're right, he does say you can't always get what you want...but what's interesting is he also says that sometimes you get what you need". Honestly probably butchering the actual lines from the show but that's off memory. It also appears throughout the show at different points, sort of a hidden main theme that will be in impactful episodes mostly.

I've watched a bunch of dozens of Brad & Lex videos cos Lex must be the prettiest girl on the Internet doing reactions. But also she's an old soul who immediately connects to the good music and vibes from eras well before her time, and you can tell by the way she sings back, moves, grimaces, reacts, and what she says. She reminds me of some free spirited girls from an age long gone by. Now, about Brad and how off he is 90% of the time, and pausing at the wrongest places...he must do it on purpose: why, I do not know. But he must do something very right cos Lex seems to love him. Oh well, lucky fellow. Love you Lex. 🥰

face it the Rolling Stones are a studio band, elaborate expensive productions and arrangements by professionals live horribly. Can’t even identify the song because when they’re on the road it’s just a big party. The best stones performances were in the early 60s when they first came out with the founder, Brian Jones. It was actually his group, when they played blues rhythm and blues they were great. They were called the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band in the world productions are excellent excellence. The shame they don’t sound anything like that live

Beggar’s Banquet, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street are arguably the best string of consecutive albums by any band in the history of rock ‘n roll. So many all time classic songs came out of those 4 albums. Most will recommend you check out their best known songs from these albums: Brown Sugar, Jumping Jack Flash, Sympathy for the Devil, Honky Tonk Woman, Gimme Shelter, You Can’t Always Get What You Want, Can’t You Hear Me Knocking, etc. you should definitely check out any of these you haven’t already hit up. Here are a few lesser requested gems I think you’d also love: Monkey Man, All Down the Line (specially the live video from Texas 1972), Sway, Rocks Off, Moonlight Mile……I could go on and on!

I thought the official music video for this song actually cuts out the choir as well? At least, this is the first time I've ever heard them in this song. And honestly, I think I like it better without the choir. No offense to them or to anyone who likes it with the choir, but this... hits differently, and not in a good way for me. This is the one I listen to most regularly... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e8xphNGLu9a6lGw.html ...and the sharpness, the snappiness of how Mick sings the words really pops. With the constant background of the choral part, it really loses that oomph.

I attended a battle of the bands back when I was a young pup. When my friend and I hitchhiked to the venue one of the bands needed a hand getting their gear into the arena and set up. We offered to help and ended up hanging out with them all day. There was Sha Na Na ( old fifties do wop band with Bowser, Brownsville Station who played their hit Smokin in the boys room ) and a cover band who played this song. The woman singer sang the opening high register chorus and it sounded so good. I’ll always remember hanging out that day and whenever they came back to area to perform we would get a call and they got us into the concert backstage to hang out with them. People say rock musicians are all arrogant but in my experience they were really great people who went out of their way to be just the nicest people. Good memories

So glad you hit the studio cut, as that Live performance doesn't even get the intro right. Such a groove, and it was used in one of the best film soundtracks of all time - The Big Chill (Columbia Pictures, 1983). I seriously recommend you watch that movie for not only the outstanding story, cast and soundtrack, but also to give you some perspective (a bunch of college friends reunite 10 years later for a funeral, and hash things out over one weekend).

This song is the greatest tease. All the way through it has a lurching syncopation like it's on a leash, can't get free, until the very end when finally it breaks out into a 4/4 backbeat. And you get a few bars like that and then it fades out ... It's brilliant. I want it to sit on that end rhythm and give us a brilliant sax solo or something, like a kind of better-orchestrated Free Bird. But that's just me.

Look up Al Kooper. He played the French horn in the beginning, and then the wild piano during the Gospel sound toward the end. Lex reacted to it. Al is a very influential guy in American rock. he played the organ piece in Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone. Founded the original Blood Sweat & Tears. An under appreciated giant.

Like the gentlemen said below me, from "Beggar" to "Exile" was peak Stones - for 4 years they really did take the Beatles' mantle of Best Rock Band. (I'm not a HUGE fan of the Beatles' last two records.) If they had retired after "Exile on Main Street" in 72 or 73, they would've been even MORE legendary than they are now, I'd bet. This song is perfection.
