You missed an incredibly important point. Champollion was able to translate the text only through the help of Coptic priests from the coptic Orthodox Church in Egypt. The church still uses ancient Egyptian language in liturgy through its modern form, the Coptic script. Champollion merely made the connection that the ancient Egyptian language never truly died, but still lived through the Coptic priests and script.

@@PeterMilanovski Alexander the Great wasn’t a Slav, and that script is Demotic. Slavs didn’t even come into the Balkans for almost a thousand years after Alexander’s death.
@PeterMilanovski
@PeterMilanovski 3 жыл бұрын
@@jcspider7259 thanks! Though the translation is from 1905, it is based on what they were able to read from the greek text which at that point in time wasn't an advanced from of littreture. The middle text on the other hand is not Egyptian Demotic as was believed, it's ancient Slavic Macedonian Sanskrit text! The Macedonian Sanskrit text contains vowels and consonants which is why people had difficulty trying to decipher it. But it has recently been deciphered and the scientific paper called Tracing The Script And The Language Of The Ancient Macedonians PDF is available for free download. Not only can we now read the ancient Egyptian text but we can now know what it sounded like! I think that it's amazing that the ancient Slavic Macedonian Sanskrit predates both English and Latin in which to my knowledge, a lot of Latin is based on ancient Slavic Macedonian words! For example, the word greek comes from the Macedonian word Grejci pronounced Greytsi meaning those who came, the word was Latinised into Greceous or Greco which is where the word greek in English came from! This particular paper is not widely known and I'm sure that Greece is keeping quiet about it because it demonstrates that the Macedonians were never greek and that the greeks didn't play a major role as they would have you believe. I personally haven't had a close look at the greek text to see if it is in fact greek! To anyone who sees it, it appears to be greek but I have read about a manuscript that was found in a greek church in Alexandria that was believed to be ancient greek, a few scholars from, I think that they were from Denmark, were working on it and were having difficulty reading it, they sent some pictures of the text to a Macedonian linguist that they had worked together on a previous project and he replied with a translation. As it turned out, the manuscript was written in Slavic Macedonian with greek letters. So who knows what is going to come out of all this, we might end up with some clarification on the ancient Egyptian text. If you are interested in the Rosetta Stone text's, Google the paper word for word as stated above, it's a fascinating read, there's a lot that is not known about ancient Slavic Macedonian history, it's actually as old as Egyptian history but it tends to be overlooked as Greece has convinced us that it's greek and all that we know about it is that Alexander the Great was Macedonian and Macedonians no longer exist! And yet the same words as they were actually spoken back in 196Bc by Ptolemy and Kleopatra and Alexander the Great are still in use today by the modern day Macedonians.. There's a lot to read if you are interested in ancient Macedonian history, I found a website that is hosting a lot of paperwork from a guy called Basil Chulev, everything from the Macedonian culture to their religious beliefs (which I'm not religious but found an understanding for why everything is the way it is today)... Simply Google Basil Chulev and something should show up, the name of the site started with the letter A but I can't remember what it was called... But well worth it if ancient history is of interest to you...

@@ryanwalters5290 that's exactly what Greece would have you believe, if you know anything about greek history then you should know that it has been changed on 3 separate occasions to suit whatever their needs were at that point in time. The scientific paper called Tracing The Script And The Language Of The Ancient Macedonians PDF which is available for free download shows that the middle text on the Rosetta Stone is in fact ancient Slavic Macedonian Sanskrit text! Not only is it Slavic Macedonian but the majority of the words used on the Rosetta Stone are still in use today by the modern day Slavic Macedonians! Yes! In 196Bc there were Slavic Macedonians! The same Sanskrit Slavic Macedonian text on the Rosetta Stone has also been found in Kokino Macedonia carved into stone and dated by the French to around 6000Bc! There's no archeological evidence of greek existence before 1500Bc! None whatsoever! No one ever say's Alexander the Great of Greece! It's a real no brainer, it's only logical sense that the middle text is ancient Slavic Macedonian! And it's really not that hard to work it out if it's true or not, download the scientific paper called Tracing The Script And The Language Of The Ancient Macedonians PDF, and you can see that it is in fact ancient Slavic Macedonian, the Sanskrit alphabet is translated into modern Slavic Macedonian and then into English.. The ancient Slavic Macedonians were a far more advanced civilization than people realise, they would have to be, there would be no way to conquer the known world if all they were was small time petty thieves, this effort required an advanced nation behind it.. it's not much different to how things work today! They ancient Slavic Macedonians worked it out that it's far better to occupy and rule a nation of people than to go in and destroy it and take whatever wealth that they can find, instead it's better to keep the nation going while you continually export the wealth accumulated back to Macedonia, that's why the greeks are not assimilated, nor was any other nation of people! This tactic is still being used today! Take Greece today for example, their economy almost completely collapsed but the Germans stepped in and offered financial support! This support doesn't come for free, Greece is never going to get out of debt! The Germans have them exactly where they want them, it's money for nothing! They are screwed but they aren't the only ones who are in that position, we know that America was doing the same thing to the Arab's.. it's an old Macedonian tactic, that's why Alexander the Great is studied so much! There's a lot more there than most people realise. But the Greeks want Macedonian history as their own and don't want anyone to work it out so they simply claim that ancient Macedonians no longer exist but they can't tell you what actually happened to them! Whether you choose to accept that the ancient Macedonian people were Slavic and that the modern day Macedonians are the same people or you don't, if knowing history as it happened and as it was is important to you, then it's up to you to find out what the truth is! There's no mention anywhere about a migration of Slavic people who moved from somewhere in the north to the south! There are no documents! The Israelites migration got a mention! Where is all this talk about migrating slav's actually coming from anyway? Probably Greece..

I am a Locksmith obviously, the story was in my trade magazines in the 80s and 90s. I may not remember all the details perfectly, but here we go. 1840s young Yale the son of the founder , He and his family went to London to look into setting up a factory to make locks and England. He was in London I am looking at different sites, and was hopping from haberdashery to haberdashery, he entered this one haberdashery and it was full of Egyptian artifacts, you came upon a table with a mechanical device on it that he recognized to be a lock. This lock was different than anything He had ever seen before, it was very old and dilapidated to the point of it being a cutaway of it's self. He drew pictures of it and 10 years later he patented it, what he discovered was the pen Tumbler Locking system we use today, I believe it's 1854 Patented . So he back engineered 4000 year old lock! That's some fun isn't it. But The story about all these Egyptian artifacts found their way to England is even more fun. In the 1840s and 50s England expanding the Kingdom found themselves in Egypt with thousands of people there, there's nothing to eat. These 250 ships that they used made multiple trips every year so that there was a ship arriving almost daily unloading food and supplies to keep these people live, they actually leased ships of the type they needed from other countries. Well there was nothing coming out of Egypt all they have is sand no need to import that. When the ships left port in England they were balanced perfectly to make it around Cape Horn where the water is always bad, after they made it to Egypt and offloaded they needed ballast rocks to balance the ships to get back home, well they clean the beaches off of all available stone for miles and miles and we're looking around for ballast when I thought it would be a good idea to use the statues and stuff they found buried in the sand for Ballast so they could make it home safely. Once they got home they put the stuff out on the dock and had an auction, to help pay for the trips . People from all over England came down to the docks and bought Egyptian artifacts to take home. They asked tribal people they encountered and they had no connection to the Egyptian artifacts . And told them it was OK to take whatever they needed they didn't care. At the time there was no government to deal with. With The state that The Middle East is in these days it seems that these artifacts are safer in England. But nevertheless these artifacts saved a lot of British lives therefore it is part of British history, it was also a logical Business decision. It help cover the cost of these trips .

Most facts about politics, economy and daily life we know about Set Maat (the tomb builders' village at Deir el-Medina) are known from the thrown away scripts on stone slabs or pot shards (ostracha). It is such a large source that paleoeconomy is largely based on them. The other sources are temple libraries-most of the Abu-Sir library contains reports and accounts about the overseen royal properties and almost nothing religious is there.

Technically, the stone has very limited historic value in Egyptian history, but it does have more value to modern history. Egypt does have many similar more complete and more ancient stones but non is of similar (modern) significance. I love how the British museum has rewritten history to cover their own mistake. The Rosetta stone was actually thought to be Basalt because it was covered in black ink when it was first discovered in order to make copies of the surface before it ever left Egypt. In fact, before it was translated, many people claimed that it must be very important for the Egyptians to take the time to carve the script into basalt, which is prone to chipping. The only reason we now know it is granite is because it was cleaned with modern chemicals which removed some of the ink, much to everyone's surprise. It was a really embarrassing flub for the museum at the time and made big headlines. Now they are trying to pull the "We knew it was granite the whole time!" BS rather than admit they displayed it with inaccurate information for over 100 years.

@@robertharper3754 Interesting viewpoint. In truth, Caesar burned the Royal Library in Alexandria during his war with Pompey (though it might have been an unintended consequence of setting the harbor on fire). Later on in 391, christisns under Theophilus destroyed the remaining library in Alexandria in their zeal to remove "paganist" source material. It seems the looting and destruction wrought during the wars begun by European crusaders in the 11th and 12th century was a greater culprit in the destruction of ancient knowledge than anything that occurred during the islamic expansion in the 7th Century. In fairness, libraries in the Middle East were also sold off by their muslim owners to pay for the defense they needed to mount against said crusaders. In regards to whom rightfully owns the stone I'll defer to Attorney Lionel Hutz... "IT'S A THORNY LEGAL ISSUE, ALL RIGHT. I'LL NEED TO REFER TO THE CASE OF FINDERS VS. KEEPERS."

It's amaizing that London still keeps things like that in its museums. It should keep only the replicas and send it back to Egypt.

Slight misinformation, Champollion deciphered it with the help of Egyptians. The egyptian copts who spoke the coptic language(it was required in order to understand the hieroglyphs). Coptic is the last form of ancient egyptian and its written in greek letters using egyptian words. With the knowledge of coptic, the coptic egyptians were able to understand the greek and then gradually understood the rest. Everyone keeps saying europeans deciphered it on their own and forget copts descend from ancient egyptians.thank you

You’re the one spreading misinformation. Champollion dedicated his entire life to studying Coptic and was by far the leading scholar on ancient Coptic texts at the time. He didn’t need any ‘help’ linking coptic to hieroglyphics and ultimately deciphering them.

It was only the Europeans that ever gave a toss about ancient Egypt. And set about trying to understand it. Without these Europeans there would not be any Egyptology at all.

False, attempts were made by Arabic scholars a thousand year before, and they were pretty decent. You have to know this: rediscovering something at a certain time, doesn’t mean that someone else wouldn’t have discovered it. After the Rosetta stone were found, so many multilingual tablets were found. Modern computers would have deciphered the text in 20 mins not 20 years like in the 19th century. For every good thing these Europeans contributed to Egyptology, there are 10 bad things they did.400 years from now, it wouldn’t matter if the language was rediscovered in the 19th or 21st century, what would matter is that so many priceless artefacts left their home country because if 19th century colonialism.

What happened to the Egyptian people? They destroyed and forgot so much of their own ancient culture. Most of what is known, found and preserved was done by westerners..

They were destroyed for the practices they were involved in, namely rituals and summonings. Also the Egyptian glyphs are yet to be fully translated to this day, so all these experts saying they deciphered the entire language are lying. From what is known, the land of Kemet had a great kingdom going all the way to the beginning of man but suffered a cataclysmic event and afterwards kept suffering from them till they were reduced to this lower state. The westerners clearly have great respect and knowledge of the practices they were involved in, who knows exactly what they are hiding but even the founding fathers were in deep with Egyptian symbology.

@opener of the world don't know what you are saying but the Egyptians were dark, the current inhabitants of Egypt are not how they used to look at all. The Egyptians were tall and as dark as the soil, they are actually the Neolithic tribes and other tribes around the area but they are not Arabs, Arabs are just a mix of various shemitic and 3domite tribes.

Given Islam's penchant for destroying pre-islamic artifacts it's probably best it remains in England. At least until the English destroy themselves through their own racism against themselves.

He says there was 3 languages on the stone but I was taught that it was only 2 (Egyptian & Greek) but was written in the 3 different scripts. 2 of the them being Egyptian scripture, similar to the English print and cursive writing, and the other, of course, Greek scripture.

yes I really did enjoy this content, except for the political sneer that the UK does not have a good reason to return the stone to Egypt. As you mentioned yourself, it is only valuable because Western people decided not to smash it up and then used considerable energy to study it. It is therefore a Western European artifact with no other intrinsic value, that does not belong in an Egyptian museum. Especially considering the way Egypt treats their artifacts in their care.

Before the Romans conquered Egypt, the Macedonians had already been and conquered just like they conquered the Greeks before them! That's why there was greek soldiers in Alexander's Macedonian army! By the time Alexander reached India, he also had Egyptians along side the Greeks as Macedonian soldiers in his Macedonian army! And the middle and main body of text on the Rosetta Stone isn't Egyptian Demotic but in fact it's ancient Slavic Macedonian Sanskrit, the scientific paper called Tracing The Script And The Language Of The Ancient Macedonians PDF is available for free download, had Simon been thorough in his research, he would have already known this and not got it wrong as he did...
