Second Battalion IG, represented by No.9 Company, which is doing the troop this year, was heavily involved in the Normandy campaign. They took on an armoured role during WWII and served with the Guards' Armoured Division. Shortly after the Normandy landings, the 2nd battalion joined the Normandy campaign two miles east of Arromanches, part of the Gold Beach area assigned to the British for the D-Day invasion. The battalion was in the vanguard of the ground advance to Arhem, later that year, and in the Allied advances across the Rhine and in subsequent fighting until Germany's surrender in May 1945.
