I bought an 8gb RX 480 on release (which is essentially a 580). That GPU carried me spectacularly through the GPU apocalypse and I only upgraded in October of '22. They can still hold their own decently. I would recommend these to anyone looking to build an ultra budget PC.

I still use my RX 590 8gb, and AMD 3600X, AURUS 450M motherboard, 128 gb of 3200 RAM DDR4, and still playing strong 5/24. Steam loves me.

i got the Sapphire RX 580 nitro plus, and the previous owner changed the aluminum heat transfer plate (on the backside beneath the backplate) with a copper one, and i changed thermal paste on both core and copper pad with a PTM7950. Barely reached 60°C in open air bench with 25% fan speed at full load 😁 when i boost it to 190w it goes all the way up to 65°C 😅

I'd be interesting to see the difference between an RX 580 which has been only repasted and the stock thermal pads reused, vs an RX 580 which has had the stock .75mm thermal pads replaced with 1mm thermal pads, and used together with a Thermal Grizzly Carbonaut .2mm thickness pad. Perhap it could be an A-B using the same card to eliminate having two RX580's on hand.

In my testing, the RX580 was re-pasted and thermal pads re-used. It did not run hot at all even under a long stress test. So, I feel the difference would be minimal.

Just undervolt and cap it to 1400mhz with 1.1V and the gpu only hovers between 60-65c for me

that .75 pad is annoying. noone selling that thickness here so i bought 1mm first thinking i could just squeeze it down. it wouldn't. idk if it's just that the cheap pad refuse to play tho, most case in reddit i found when looking it up before buying said it'll work. replaced with .5 and at least it works now but idk if it made contact lol, haven't checked since

It can run any PS4 game at 1080p Ultra or worse Medium 60 FPS. With FSR 1080p or native 900p or 720p at worse on this era. Any DX10 and older titles 1440p Ultra and 4K as well.

You're right mate. I play a lot of older games, and I know a lot of other gamers too. For these titles, the RX 580 8GB is totally fine.

@@ProYamYamPC it's kind of amazing. 3 DPs out plus digital and hdmi. Right now it's in an Ivy Bridge build with 32g ddr3 and a 3770k. Will run BG3 in high settings 1080 for 90 minutes before throttling at the processor. Get one if you can most tech channels have actually covered this model but nobody seems to care. If you're into retro gaming it does ps2 at 6X [1440] without sweating.

I believe it's because AMD has added feature sets to newer cards. The RX 580 hasn't received the update for FSR 3. The RX 580 will still be receiving game ready driver updates though.

It's certainly a budget card, but it's still viable for a lot of games. If you want to play the latest AAA games, it won't be brilliant. But lightweight, competitive games, it's great for them.

I just bought the Sapphire RX 580 8gb, I only have 4th gen I7-4790 cpu, will it still play games. I ended up building a new PC but stayed with the Haswell chip.

the 580 came out... what.. 6 years ago? 7? There are some software & hardware features you're just not going to get.. and unfortunately.. recently released drivers will do MUCH more harm then good... I'm running a Strix 580 OC.. and I can't update the drivers as they not only conflict, they make the system very unstable and glitch prone. The only reason why I havent upgraded yet is because it honestly isnt worth the cost despite the performance increase... not to mention most of these cards are 3+ slot.. its godamn ridiculous... . I really miss the days of the AIW 8900s

Im srry, had it when it came out, and tried to sell it as soon as possible, only used it for 1 year before changing gpu. Had to rearrange voltages, going over 90°C, crashing all the times if you hadn't a driver version that worked, if you actualized them, you might find you looking again for the good drivers. It was a hell. Chaged it for a 1080ti 5 years ago, and haven't regret the change, that graphics card is still rocking in my 2k monitor. I guess those issues are fixed rn, but after that experience with amd graphics card, i dont want another AMD.

I had very similar issues with both an RX 570 and 5700 XT back in 2020. I've used at least 15 different AMD GPUs in various forms since then and the drivers have developed leaps and bounds. I did also hear some RX 570/580 models shipped with bad thermal paste too from back then.

@@ProYamYamPC i don't think it was my case, every time I changed the voltages the temperatures will go under normal values, 70/80 °C, but everytime it updated the drivers, my configuration of voltages and clocks would erase themselves and had to redo them again. I know that the newer cards are good as hell, but decided to stay to Nvidia. In terms of processor, I will go to Ryzen the next time I upgrade(i7 7700 rn). Since I use to multitask, design, 3d apps (AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS....) and wanted to do some streams too

Why would you test games without testing FSR? One of the best things about older AMD cards is they do get newer technologies such as FSR. The RX580 getting 45 fps without FSR in Starfield means that a 6-7 year old card will gey better-than-console performance on a game released this year.

Because FSR looks terrible at 1080p. There isn’t enough information to effectively upscale to 1080p. Resulting in a blurry mess.

@@NeonPixels81 that’s the great thing about PC gaming, we can pick and choose. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth enabling FSR at 1080p. But others think otherwise, which is ok. So it’s a matter of what you want, frame rate or clarity.

I can’t lie. While I still prefer the GTX 1060 for the same price point, the RX580 did outperform the 1060 in casual gaming. I even didn’t take it out for a while because I was enjoying the extra VRAM in COD2. For reference, the GTX 1060 and RX580 are near equal in price on the used market.

Personally, I think the RX 580 is a way better buy (in my area at least). It's usually cheaper, should perform better, less driver overhead, and it has more VRAM. I am working on a vs video against the GTX 1060 6GB too!

I completely disagree after 2019-2022 the rx 580 was rapped for Crypto mining and it's for sale prices used reflects that a majority the memory and such die at anytime . 😂😂😂 the best deal for a GPU in 2023 is the GTX 1080/1080ti 150-180$ as its still getting driver support and has raytracing now!! Also Iheir the RTX 2060 that is a budget champion today which is 180-200$ today , what didn't age well was the poor 1660/1650 worth a measly 100/125$ ..

here used 1080 is about same price as used 6600 and i think i'd rather 6600. newer, longer support, and it performs better most of the time than 1080. 1080 Ti on the other hand, it's a bit pricier but performs better than both.

As a rx 580 owner, this thing is 100% worth it, for a gpu that is under 100 dollars the fact that it can play games like elden ring at 60 to 50 fps at max settings is really impressive

I have a rx580 oc armor and iam running cyberpunk most of the times at 60 at medium and my cpu is worse than this one is a ryzen 1600 and i have more fps for sure i think you installed the wrong driver
