It’s nice to see someone actually test the 940 instead simply commenting they don’t cut well. It looked like it cut well to me. Plenty good enough for my needs, plus they carry so well in the pocket.

I own both and don't remember the last time i carried my pm2, takes up more room in the pocket and has less cutting edge. Been carrying the 940 everyday since i bought it, cuts like a dream for my needs.

Great video. The results were what I expected. I was a little surprised to see that the 940 did as well as it did. I was happy to see it though since I own a 940. I like it but I do need to get the blade reprofiled to 15 degrees.

Awesome test to see, ill still carry my 940-2 over my s35vn pm2 tho. I just love the 940 so versatile and much much easier to carry.

IIRC, Larrin Thomas did some tests on S30V and found Benchmade to have better edge retention than Spiderco on S30V. Is that worth $100 extra for the butterfly tax? Depends on the buyer, I think. I'm a 940 guy, but Spidercos are arguably better knives in most regards. If you take subjective views on aesthetics out of the equation, I think I'd rather have a Spiderco PM2 over a 940 if I had to only choose one, forever. Specifically the PM2 in Magnacut. Yet, I EDC the 940 in S30V. I do actually use it daily, multiple times a day. Also the 940 definitely has a blade more similar to a reverse japanse-tanto shape than a sheeps-foot. Blade shapes are relatively fluid but sheepsfoot are almost always a straight edge with a curved drop. The 940 is a curved edge and a straight "reverse-tanto shaped spine. I don't see the argument for it being a sheepsfoot.

I bought a 940 back in 2020. Nice knife, but as far as extended cutting is concerned it’s Spyderco all day. Their heat treat is superior on s30v. My 940 performs on par with Spyderco bd1n. When I use my knife it’s usually for prolonged tasks. I need my edge to hold up, and for that reason I usually carry Spyderco.

The 940 seemed to have done surprisingly well. I’ve not been made aware of any issues with BM steel. But, as a general consensus in the industry and among enthusiasts, Spyderco reigns king. I doubt there are many BM fans that would disagree.

One of the (unusual) things I’ve noticed about the 940 is that it cuts cheese better than many Spydercos-seems like the narrow height and wedge-like shape yield better cuts through sticky mediums. Even when sharp the 940 is not great on paper. Good test, Doody.

Interesting video. Fun watch. I saw your reply about Cutleryshoppe regarding the Wharny PM2. It’s in XHP which I’m not familiar with. Quick search looks like it’s a bit like 20CV maybe? Have you worked with it?

had this same thing happen between my CPM-M4 940-2 and my CPM-M4 Manix 2 lightweight. i got the 940 first and processed about 120 boxes at work, could barely cut paper after i was done, I decided this is what to expect for CPM-M4. Fast forward a couple months i pick up my Manix 2 in CPM-M4, except this time i had a load of 160 boxes to break down. After i was done with that i tested the Manix 2 on receipt paper and to my surprise it still cut clean, hell it still shaved. When i got home i stropped it and it came back to the way it was when i first got it. My 940 HAAATES my strop for some reason so i always need to sharpen it. all in all spyderco seems more quality to me, considering the fact i spent $220 on my 940 and about $140 after tax for my manix 2 lightweight. I'd say benchmade needs to get a better hold on their QC, its not even a competition at this point.

Not defending the 940 but the aftermarket edge could’ve been a detriment. If they lessened the angle it may have been “sharper”, but not as sturdy of an edge. Less angle is typically sharper, but not stronger.

The 940 most certainly has a reverse tanto blade style, not sheepsfoot. Curious why you used the 940 for comparison and not the 290BK Full Immunity which has the Wharncliffe blade style 🧐

I used to think benchmades were the best knives around…. Until I discovered Spyderco, WE, even my Microtech that costed LESS than most benchmades.

@@rommelthedesertfox3089true but you aren’t getting choke up spots filled with jimping on any BM. The crazy locked in feeling where it wouldn’t go anywhere even if your hands were covered in oil. Im just a Spyderco fan, some people like the way they look, others don’t. 🤷🏻‍♂️😁 It’s all good if you don’t
