Thank you for this lovely documentary! If I had a criticism it would be the narrator.'s use of the word "superstitious" when describing the deep spiritual activities of some Daoist adherents.

I spent 6months there. It was devastatingly disappointing. I went there for learning taichi and spiritual cultivation. Nothing came of it - nature is beautiful, temples are beautiful but the entire mountain is a daoist disneyland, it's all for show, for tourism only. Even the "schools" there are just for show and tourist entertainment. Extremely expensive, crowded and loud!! Noone speaks a word of english, even though it is often advertised that they do. There are 5G towers every 100m. If you are a foreigner you will be photographed, recorded and livestreamed without permision like an animal in the zoo. People literally showe their phones into your face. Just for a short tourist visit it is absolutely worth it - a stunning place worth of admiration. For learning and cultivation find a different, less famous place.

Quite lovely, really, and in spite of our friend @luciapandrova reporting from her personal experience that it’s all a great tourist trap (which surely it is, but how many places worth seeing in the world are NOT these days?)… At first mildly annoying, the textural differentials between the British narrator’s voice (obviously the original!) and the captioned text below became increasingly fascinating after I realized that the voice over narration had been translated into Chinese and then back to English again, and the great differences in how concepts might be expressed within the same language were rather entertaining in their own right. While some would without doubt suggest that it’s the Chinese CCP attempting to nefariously “control the narrative” (which is doubtless true to a certain extent, but I only found one or two instances in nearly an hour where such might have occurred, and then it was simply like the deletion of the second half of an analogy), but what of it? Any western country would no doubt do the same, and often a great deal more egregiously! I watch a lot of CCTV (well, I’m subscribed, although YT only rarely reminds me to watch it, and also I’m generally so “oversubscribed” that it’s usually dealer’s choice when I’m doom-scrolling YT!), but it is nowhere near, in fact NEVER, the endlessly depressing fountain of angst and racist hyper-patriotic vitriol that in general is the hallmark of the “mainstream” American press. I have never seen, nor do I expect to see, President Xi wrapping himself in the “red and gold,” or hawking specially bound copies of the Confucian Analects or the Tao Te Ching, stamped with the Mandarin characters meaning “Make China Great Again!” In spite of their many grievous “humanities,” and errors over the millennia, China is, was, and will always be great, and they know it! And a special word of thanks from my seldom sufficiently humble self to China, for tea, silk, paper money and perhaps most especially toilet paper… The real reason for the double translation was beyond doubt to expedite further lingual offerings, as I notice about half the previous comments are from French speakers (go Macron, go NATO, let’s bury Putin, “Slava Ukraini!”)… Is it just me, or after a certain point doesn’t it become easier and easier to love all the peoples and cultures of the world, and to appreciate both our samenesses and our very wonderful differences? The narrator should learn the pronunciation of key concept words properly. The word Qi should have been pronounced “chi” and not “ki”! The Quqing is prounced “ QuChin” not QuKin” . Tao de Ching ( pronounced Tao de Ching as spelled, not “kink “ Qing Dynssty “ Ching” not “King Dynasty”. Otherwise the documentary see well filmed! This film looks like it is at least 10-15 years old.
