It is disgusting at how the club handled this situation, everyone in that front office should be sacked and replaced immediately! Lloyd was correct and Rutten had to go, he wasn't a good coach at all his game plan was terrible and not suited for such a young playing group. But they way the club disrespected him as a person in beyond forgivable and as a supporter I hope the AFL would step in and demand explanation and resignations!

Essendon have the players to succeed. They have played brillant quaters at times, but they need direction and a clear plan. An experienced coach hopefully will give them that and make them a finals contender quickly....

The Richmond Football Club is all class. From the boot studder to the CEO. The envy of the competition. No surprises they have been the powerhouse of the AFL for the last 5 years.

Nick Hind should never be allowed to wear the Ess jumper again. Disgraceful childish performance refusing to sit next to the coach. I will just add, it was Hind who gave up the chase on J Daicos which in turned allowed Daicos to kick the goal of the yr. Josh Daicos is not exactly the fastest player over 30 metres but was enough to beat Hind who could not be bothered.

I agree with Lloyd. There needs to be a clean out. If your sole focus isn’t winning football games and putting the club in the best position to win games they should be gone. Enough of the politics and people looking after their jobs and their mates jobs. That goes for the board the coaches and the players. Have to get rid of the rotten apples before they infect the entire cart, if they haven’t already.

How many clubs have done exactly what Essendon has done with regards to courting other coaches while having another in contract coach? Damo you need to stop with the bias against Essendon.

Didn't essendon play in finals last year and had a few injuries at start of this year it's crazy to have sacked rutten cause no experienced coach will want the job because 1 bad year and your sacked imagine if richmond had of sacked hardwick after the 2016 yr essendon get ready for more turmoil and players wanting to leave.

Tension has to happen when change is called, it's part of the package. Anyone who was gonna go against the grain (stagnation) at Essendon and advocate for change or accountability was always going to get the roughest assessment because ultimately the majority who are comfortable get hurt, and those who do it were always gonna have to take the hits with it. Long overdue.

Matthew Lloyd is way too bias. And Dav's approach was disgraceful. So glad Clarko responded the way he did. How long did Clarko and Harwick get before they actually won a premiership. Rutten could have done better if the likes of Lloyd and Dav actually tried to help, instead of conspire.

The treatment of Rutten has been a disgrace. I hope he ends up at another club who will welcome him with open arms. Meanwhile the list manager - the one who made the wrong draft choices and set the club back 20 years has been given a free pass.

I agree in most parts but to pull for example two centre bounces, Round 1 and Round 23 where the opposition get the clearance...I could pull two examples from every club across the competition where they lose a centre bounce contest like that. Give us a spell.

Yes...AFL has a long history of sacking coaches....more than most other sports.... With a competition with 18 teams there has to be top teams & bottom teams for whatever the reason....so should all the bottom team coaches be sacked ??..or can we give them at least 3 years to prove their worth. Barham just seems slimy - especially in that press conference. Go for experience in Ross Lyon - but he wouldn't go there i don't think. Or Mark McVeigh could be a good option - club man, but more importantly, hasn't let the Giants coast when he's been interim coach and won't let standards slip. RESPECT? Good one Damian! Tom Hafey resigned in 1977. Between then and 2017/19/20 they won 1 flag. 40 years 1 flag and 12 coaches sacked,dumped, exhausted. RESPECT! and nearly all of them Richmond champs. Footy is a soul destroying business and Dimmer was nearly another one added to the list but somehow they backed him after something like 7 mediocre years and he came through ! Was Peggy responsible for that ! If Graeme Richmond or Ian Wilson we’re still there Dimmer would have been toast . Remember Ben Rutten was an assistant at the Tigers before coming to Essendon so he would have left with good wishes and being the guy he seems to be liked and popular it’s not surprising that those outside the pressure cooker and supporter anger and all the normal crap when you aren’t playing well were supportive of Ben especially players he coached. Those Tiger players careers and future prospects aren’t on the line along with their coach so I say thanks Ben sorry to see you go but the second youngest team in the AFL needs a strong experienced hand or a flukey appointment.
