That clone did not get access to the GI bill. But seriously the scene with Kenobi looking at a clone of the 501st, who massacred the Jedi at the temple, and still giving him credits out of kindness, hit different

Only... it's not really a retcon. Before they became Legends, multiple books and stories made a point of mentioning Palpatine's xenophobia. In the original Thrawn books, Thrawn was an exception and one of the very few non humans who rose to power and favor. Sure Disney may have ramped it up, but it's not something wholly new.

That's only the tip of the iceberg, when you really think about the empire logically the entire story honestly falls apart ngl. I really dislike how "in your face" authoritarian they're in lore and on screen. Real life authoritarian governments were never this "in your face" they at least pretended that they cared about the greater good and had endless propaganda to keep control of the population but here they just forget you need to at least trick people into following their shitty ideology. To me the Fel Empire was infinity better and more sane than whatever palpatine was doing.

"Help get a veteran a warm meal" So I probably didnt get the quote right but you get the idea, its soo awful to see a solider who was born into his cause with no choice, discarded for the thing he had complete blind loyalty for. Once a proud man and powerful and now a beggar on the streets and a low life, this scene almost makes you feel the forgiveness obiwan has for the trooper in you, as eventhough he probably helped kill the jedi you still feel sympathy knowing that he probably didn't have a choice.

Interestingly, in the SW comics, its shown that the 501st never got rid of their colored armor unlike other clone groups, so he mightve just been given a leaflet 1 day that he's "freed" from slavery and can now go out to the unforgiving galaxy to get a job or most likely go homeless

Out of universe, they may have given him the armor to identify him as a member of the 501st. His probable role in the attack on the Jedi temple makes the situation particularly impactful. In universe, it is hard to see why he’d still have his armor. If he’s a deserter, then he’d not want to identify himself so openly. If the Empire discarded him, then I don’t see why they would let him keep his armor. They discarded the clones because they no longer had a use for them. I would assume that the armor could be broken down into raw materials at least. And why leave the armor somewhere that it could wind up being used against them? Even if the clone didn’t betray them, he might sell the armor to someone who does. Letting him keep his armor risks it falling into the “wrong” hands. While it might be obsolete, it would probably be better than no armor. The rebels don’t have any armor except a helmet in many cases. Painting the armor and not wearing the helmet would be enough to avoid friendly fire.

It's pretty simple. Clones exist to fight nothing more. They are not useful in other capacity and they age faster making them less desirable in the long run. Men of military age are best between 20-30. Clones age twice as fast. Meaning 5 years is all a clone has for peak performance. The clone wars lasted 3 years. This is set 10 years after the war. This clone if 20 at the end of the war is in his 40s. But if you look at him might be closer to 50. They simply don't have a long shelf life.
@inquisitorgarza312
@inquisitorgarza312 2 жыл бұрын
The sad truth is that the Clone Army were pawns to Darth Sidious rise, and they were meant to be sacrifice, used, and then discarded by him. They were a slave army who sole purpose was to fight in a war that was rigged from the start, and they were never going to be a part of the Galactic Empire in any way shape or form. Really if the clones were a bit more independent they would have realized that the Galactic Empire was going to replace them with the Stormtroopers, and maybe even stage a rebellion to at least die fighting as they breed to do.

Slaves are bond by chains and force. These are not slaves. They are more like machines. A clone is created with a single purpose. In this case war. And with no war they are useless. On top of that they have accelerated growth. So they are fast into action at half the life span but half the shelf life. Since they grow old faster too. Within 9 years a clone is 18, combat ready. Let's say 10 years to make him proficient then you got 5 years for it to be at peak performance. And then they start to lose quality. Like every human does. But regular humans live twice as long. On top of that they are modified to have no fear, follow orders blindly and keep going without complaint. Not much of a democratic citizen. They do not disobey orders. They cannot solve complex problems. Which makes them useless outside of combat.

Those babies in the tubes we saw in Bad Batch that were taken out and likely moved to another planet will likely be the last batch of Clones introduced into the Imperial military, strange that so many clones never even fought in the Clone Wars, by A New Hope that last batch of clones as well as some officers from the first few generations are likely all that remains of the Clones in the Imperial military, the destruction of both Death Stars and the Battle Of Jakku also likely took a huge toll on their numbers for what remained.
@tristankawatsuma8962
@tristankawatsuma8962 2 жыл бұрын
I doubt they were ever fully developed. By the time of A New Hope, clones were a rarity. Maybe between 1-5% of the Imperial military at most. Sure, the Empire spans the galaxy so maybe they just have way more humans than a few million clone troopers, but most source material has the clones by this point be very old. So I don't think baby clones and a lot of kid clones are going to live to the age of ten, the normal age for a clone to be deployed when they have the body of a twenty-year-old human.

It probably is cheaper. When the Republic bought clones, they had to pay for genetic modifications, their upbringing and development for a full decade, and simply the effort of making them in the first place. Compare that to just paying a stormtrooper normal wages, stormtroopers would be cheaper than clones.

Realistically I think the Empire would either keep using the remnant of Clone Troopers until died in combat or died of natural causes, it doesn't make sense to for the Empire just release what they consider their "property" into the wild, especially knowing the Clones still have their inhibitor chips, skills and knowledge /experience. They could be considered a liability to the regime. Also, if you're concerned about their aging, just have be trainers for the Stormies like the Commandos are. I think that seems more like something the Empire would do.
@thelaststormtrooper4326
@thelaststormtrooper4326 2 жыл бұрын
And they did use the clones for the first couple years, remembering that only a few million clones were made during the clone wars & between the clone wars & the rise of the empire fighting against separatist holdouts & rebellious planets, most of the clones would of been killed at this point.. The Empire would hunt down any clone traitors & deserters, any who would qualify for “retirement” would have to be “loyal” & agree to certain terms like not taking up arms against the empire & report seditious or jedi activities.. Commander Wolf in REBELS reported the jedi/rebels when they first met with Rex’s group for example.. I agree that they could of used the clones for something, the problem with the clones are they are unmistakable symbol of the republic, like all republic symbols you need to be replaced with imperials.. So you don’t remind the citizenry of the “before the empire” times.. The empire was more concerned with loyalty & political alignment in training that the clones weren’t needed for trainers of stormtroopers after the first generation of natural born humans took the field.. With the Empire & the Imperial Army & Navy coming into form, I don’t think the empire cared about the few clones that remained.. By 0BBY all remaining 1generation clones would be entering their 60s, still capable but showing significant wear and tear on their bodies & minds..
@tristankawatsuma8962
@tristankawatsuma8962 2 жыл бұрын
Actually, the inhibitor chips wear off over time. That can be seen in clones like Captain Grey. Eventually, the inhibitor chips would stop working. If Howzer could do what he did with his chip still activated and if Rex was forming a clone rebellion, the clone army would quickly become a major risk. After all, a majority of the clones did serve under the Jedi and the Republic. If free from their chips, things could get nasty. While a clone uprising could be quickly put down, the Imperials wouldn't want to risk having a fraction of their army rise up. And racism is a strong motivator for phasing the clones out quickly. Plenty of people had low opinions of the clones, though it wasn't just because they were from a planet located outside the galaxy by aliens nobody had seen for centuries. The clones also cost a lot of money just to make, money that came from taxpayers and made a lot of people poor. There would be a lot of animosity between stormtroopers and clone troopers. Also, the clones served as a symbol of the Galactic Republic. The Empire wanted to wipe everything about the former government away. Yes, the Imperials like to have the tactical and strategic advantage in battle, but not everything about the Empire was efficient. It was a government that bathed in bigotry and inequality. What would be considered parts of other governments like the Republic and the Separatists, was the core of the Empire. If everything was done for efficient sake, the Imperial Senate would still be around to keep planets loyal, the Death Star would never have been remade, the TIE Defender project would have been continued, and the Empire would get rid of its bigotry side so that it can utilize non-human populations who have people just as great at stuff as humans like Thrawn from the Chiss. Empires can make a lot of stupid decisions for ideological reasons. Take Hitler calling off the Invasion of Britain so he could invade Russia. Take the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Take the US invasion of Iraq. Take the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In fact, you don't have to be an empire to make the wrong call for reasons that shouldn't be taken into consideration for utilitarian sake.

I'm not so sure about "degradation" and all that myself... the fact that Rex lives all the way to the destruction of the second death star, without any noticable health issues, and is still fit enough for war, makes me wonder if degradation is not canon under Disney. At the very least, it's plausable that the clones' rapid aging somewhat slows after a certain point.

Normal humans in our world, without ample physical training, starts degrading physically at an age as young as 25, & i'd assume that that much works the same for Star Wars. You don't have to get to the point of legs too wobbly to run & hands too shaky to hold a blaster to 'have degraded physically'. On the contrary, a human maintaining physical training all the way into their advanced age would allow one to even fight in a war in their 60s, with said degradation taken into consideration.

Total Fan theory here as to who that homeless clone is, nothing I’m aware of in Cannon disproves this theory so I’m going to assume it to be true until proven otherwise. I suspect that clone we saw maybe Trooper Sterling from Clone Wars Season 7 Here’s my reasoning: For starters both Stirling and the homeless clone have a similar blaster mark on their armor above their heart. Coincidence? Stirling was a named clone trooper in the 501st that may not have been ordered to execute order 66. Partial reason as to why he didn’t attack Kenobi (Other than assuming he even recognized him, he simply was too drunk to notice or order 66 had warn off by now) Last we saw him in Cannon he was injured while attempting to stop Darth Maul on Mandalore. We do not know that he died of his injuries, we also don’t know that he was transported on to the venator with Ahsoka, Rex, and crew that went down with all hands lost. He could have been kept at a medical facility on Mandalore or taken off world via a separate shuttle to have his injuries cared for when order 66 happened and because no Jedi were directly around him and possibly being in a hospital bed he was never issued the order. And because we know the empire immediately started to phase out clones after order 66 happened it’s safe to assume they just abandoned him and any other wounded clones who were healing with the hope that without medical attention the clones would all die of their injuries and help expedite getting rid of clone troopers. Which could lead to why he came to the position that he was in Another theory that backs this is his armor. He’s still wearing blue marked 501st armor. If he’d stayed in the empire for any duration of time he’d have been required to turn in his armor and replace it with shiny white armor as clones were not allowed to have individuality under the empire’s rule. The only clones who kept there armor, Rex and Wolfe both left the empire early on (And anyone that’s a named character they didn’t wanna have to keep saying the names for like Howser and Scorch). Something Important Gregor does not have his colored armor as we know he did stay in the empires service for a few months after order 66. (He was wearing white armor in the Bad Batch when he was rescued) Presumably he stayed in the Empire a lot longer than Rex and Wolfe did. Based on the real world and my own experience with the military, you 100% are not going to be allowed to keep body armor when you “retire” from military service. They’re gonna take that from you and reissue it out to the next person. Which helps back the theory this clone didn’t “retire” from military service and either went AWOL or the Empire abandoned him thinking he’d die, supporting the theory that it’s Sterling. Pure speculation I know but it would be cool if he’s a clone we’d already met!

Sure, but when you age at twice the rate & are a unmistakable symbol of the republic, like all republic symbols you need to be replaced.. So you don’t remind the citizenry of the “before the empire” times.. Really the only outcome for the clones were to be used as expendable shocktroops for the empire till they are all wipe out or test subjects for weapons or euthanized by a anti-clone virus.. The fact that the empire allowed some to leave/retire shows how badly they wanted them out of the way & forgotten.. The empire knew that clones that didn’t pick the life of bounty hunters & Mercenaries [Most dying quickly] or form small clone settlements would be unable to find work & would either die in the gutter or would find work in criminal circle or Rebel groups justifying they’re replacement.. Clones did deserve better, sadly they didn’t have many good options..

And one clone called X1 even became an dark side adept with his own super star destroyer and ruled an imperial faction until be defeated by his brother X2.

Um, didn't the clones in Legends just get phased out later than they did in Canon? After all, the Kamino Uprising really threw Palpatine off. Not to mention the fact the clones were still serving the Empire who were only seen as useful for their skills and still treated as lowly as Imperial clones were in Canon. I would say in Legends, the inevitable was just delayed by less than a decade.

That's exactly why they were phased out. A cohesive army is a useful tool for a dictator to seize power, but a liability once in power. I'd like to hear of the stories, if there are any, but I always had a different conception when I thought about clone mental illness. Considering PTSD is a real world diagnosis of an actual mental disorder, not just bad dreams from a bad experience or something lesser like that. We also know that a certain percentage of our population is physically incapable of getting PTSD. So when I thought about clones, I figured the Kaminoans genetic engineering would've made them incapable of getting actual PTSD. Now the closest thing I've seen is the inhibitor chip symptoms but those are obviously attributed to the chip and not the psyche of the clone

Clones are one of the most tragic beings in Star Wars. 1. They were child soldiers, growth accelerated, forced to fight a war they didn't understood, fully aware they were completely expendable to the republic and the kaminoans, which viewed them as products, not people. 2. Forced to comply order 66, which meant gunning down in cold blood their generals and commanders which most clones viewed them as mentors and friends. 3.Slowly being decomissioned by rank and file troopers, forced to retire or being used as a lab rats by Hemlock, or end up being homeless like many vets in the real world. The clones deserved the best, yet they only received the worst.

Okay, I kind of doubt the child soldier remarks hold water anymore. After all in a galaxy like Star Wars, species age at different rates. Kaminoans for instance become adults at the age of eleven. Sure, the clone troopers are clones of a human, but that doesn’t mean their mental state and minds age at the same rate as a normal human. I know real life child soldiers can fight in battles and use weapons, but if clone troopers in the war would be called children, they would have to be the smartest ones ever since they could operate warships, starfighters, and walkers at the mere age of ten. Would I still consider them younger in a sense compared to other Star Wars characters? Probably because the Clone Wars was the first time any of them got off world. If experience outranks everything, then the clones could be considered children in the sense they know nothing about the galaxy, at least nothing they were taught in training. They are like Jedi Padawans who finally get to leave the Jedi Temple and explore the galaxy. Basically, I think the clone troopers are just too intelligent in a utilitarian sense to be called children, especially given other species like their creators don’t age at the same rate as humans. However they could also be called children in the sense they have little experience with the galaxy, like a Padawan finally emerging from the Jedi Temple with their Jedi Master.

At some point in to future there better be a Trilogy of movies or a limited series where it focuses on Omega Squad and the 6 Null-class Advanced Recon Commandos with Kal Skirata on finding a cure to Accelerated Aging and sending it out to the clones in the galaxy. As well as helping Clones like the 501st Veteran. Most of us Grow up with the Clone Wars show and I can't even express the sheer love we all have for the Clone Troopers, they deserve a definitive happy ending where we know that they, at some point gain the cure for Accelerated Aging and go on to then be Mercenaries, Bounty Hunters, Mandalorians, farmers, Law Enforcement, etc. Go on to find love and have families and create communities. To go on and Experience a Long Life. They deserve Peace and Happiness. To have them just Die and be forgotten, to be left on the street with not even enough money to eat is just Heart breaking. The beauty about Fictional Worlds like Star Wars is that Escapism it offers us from the Real world. Fictional Worlds allow us the opportunity to show how there is happiness waiting for all of us even if life can sometimes be absolutely egregious you always have to push through, stand tall and win a fulfilling life. You cannot allow Depression, Hardship, Anger etc. to win. Otherwise if it allows did the world would be a lot Darker and less full of Color.
