After a DISASTROUS Masters performance john Rham looked tepid, bitter and uninspired Jon Rahm played The Masters like a man who knows he has made a horrible mistake
Rahm's comeback, however, was met with a mix of anticipation and controversy. Speaking to Golf Channel Latin America, Rahm revealed the varying receptions he received, saying, "Some did [welcome me]. I expected it. And then, there was someone else who I expected to be a little tougher... and one of them hugged me."
On the course, Rahm faced a challenging tournament, finishing tied for 45th with a disappointing nine-over par, his worst showing at Augusta National.

LIV has nothing to do with it, he had a bad round, Cam Smith and Bryson had a fairly good round and they both play on LIV. He’s plays well at LIV and the competition on LIV is there, he hasn’t won yet.

Why does everything have to come down to it’s something to do with LIV. Yeah Rahm didn’t have a great masters. But neither did a lot of players. Speith, Thomas, Clark, Hovland and Mcilroy. Sometimes you just don’t have it that week.

LIV has very little or nothing to do with John and his rounds at the Masters. LIV has nothing to do with how anyone plays. The 2 tours will join together after Pinehurst in some form. LIV is not going anywhere. Stay tuned.

Rahm didnt play great, neither did many. i cant help but love watching LIV golf. the only reason people fall out oiflove with players who left id because all the hate and discrimination towards liv from media and loudmouths. just like politics.

17% of the Masters field (excluding seniors or retired past champs) were LIV players. So you would expect LIV to at least have 2 players finish top 10. They had three: Chambeau, Cam, and Hatton.

It is common for returning Masters champions playing poorly. They sometimes are overwhelmed by the ceremony and requirements placed on them during Masters week.

I would argue in opposition to basically every point that you made. Was it a good decision for Rahm. Yes, no doubt. You're talking about an EXTRA $400 million dollars. If he never played again it would still be a GREAT career move. It was great for his family. And he has been having great fun with team golf. I can argue your skewed view of the Masters results. When you compare the number of invites to the positions filled by respective tours, the PGA Tour and LIV were about equal this year. Last year LIV smoked the PGA Tour with results. I too questioned the LIV Players ability to keep their games sharp, but I have also watched every minute of LIV, and the competition is compelling. I would ask that you consider it from the following "AK" perspective. Maybe, the majority of dudes who risked Major and Ryder Cup Qualifications, weren't really the ones in love with the game and the competition as the regular Joe might expect. Maybe a lot of the dudes that were playing for a paycheck aren't so interested in legacy as the fans.

What Rahm is staring at is his eligibility in the majors, especially the PGA Championship and The Open. As it stands now with LIV players not getting world ranking points Rahm is exempt to The Masters for life and the U.S. Open through 2032. His exemptions into the other two majors last only through 2028. Perhaps Rahm knows that his fate to play in all the majors for the rest of his career rest on the reality that he's going to have to win more majors to do so. Maybe he realizes that his preparation leading up to The Masters wasn't up to his usual standards. Of course this is his first year on the LIV Tour and adjustments could be made by Rahm in how he prepares for majors in the future.

Rahm took the money. What he gave up was legacy, competition and collecting trophies that matter. All things that were, and probably are, still important to him. He was not tournament ready for the Masters and it showed, and the realization that he is an afterthought in golf today if this is the player he has become probably hit him like a ton of bricks I am sure. Let’s face it getting a big check from LIV vs the outsized money he was already earning on the PGA tour, was not going to make a huge difference in his life. Not being the top dog in golf and no prospects to ever get back there I am sure has Rahm second guessing his move to LIV.

I was there for the Monday practice round. Of course Tiger had the biggest crowd because we all want to see tiger. But the second largest group was Phil, Bubba and Niemann. I followed Bryson for a little while and he had a good size following too. I don’t remember seeing JR on Monday so I can’t speak to his crowd size

I think it was Paul McGinley, who said, golf is in a bad place, all the fans see is rich professional golfers getting richer. I haven't watched golf for years. I used to enjoy going to tournaments, watching players prepare, on the practice ground and deciding who I was going to follow, for 18 holes. In the days before subscription sports, I used to watch events, I couldn't attend live. Now, I have lost interest and if there were more regional events, I would rather attend them, encouraging younger golfers to hone their skills, in competitive environments.

I don't think Rahm joining LIV is the issue. I hate the whole big money destroys the players motivation argument. Athletes in other sports make more money and have no issues staying motivated. Rahm also made more money from advertising than he did on the PGA Tour and didn't seem to lose motivation to play his best. As for the 3 rounds in LIV you can say that actually makes the players more competitive because there is less room for error. Rahm is adjusting to his new circumstances and once the adjustment period is over he will be playing dominant golf again. As for the fans following him, that probably says more about the people able to get tickets to the Masters than anything else. Wait until the Opens to judge if he has lost followers or not.

The Masters playing conditions were a living Hell for the golfers. Some could adapt, many did not. If you are not hitting it pure then the wind will cause havoc. The greens were like putting on a car hood. I think many were glad to exit out of Augusta. Rahm will not suffer. I suspect Rahm and Finau the last day had some interesting conversations about LIV. I think Finau shot an 80. Congrats on the new baby, but your point is more conjecture and over analysis when the entire field suffered. Scotty now plays at a higher level though he did change his putter.

He had a bad couple days, so did other BIG name PGA players like Hideki Matsuyama, Tony Finau, Akshay Bhatia and Rickie Fowler. At least two players didn't look to be in as good of shape as there were a year ago. Like John Rahm and same goes for Bruce Kepka. They weren't striking the ball as well as they usually do. And there are others that didn't seem to be in as good of shape as they did previously. Also, when playing in the wind (like it blew there) it takes alot out of a player who is second guessing shot-shape. Especially when one shots don't come as as anticipTED. And are grinding hole-after-hole just to get through the round, with as few hiccups as possible. Also, having children is another factor because one can be thinking about the family at home. There's lots of reasons, and the tours need a more open, and more welcoming policies so they will all stop qibbling over minor details. It seems obvious that the PGA Tour isn't ready to make the purses larger then they are. So in that regards players are at LIV to increase their earnings.

Rahm is fine! First of all he had the champions dinner as a distraction from his prep routine! Then the weather was bad.. the first two days very few players were playing under par! Most golfers accept their play as it is or was... they don't come out with excuses to avoid the reality of the situation or outcome! Another thing that comes to mind...in bad conditions it's hard to suck it up and turn things around... It's just a game after all.. and we aren't supposed to know everything about what's in the golfer's head!

Let’s be honest. The tours mean nothing and that’s bound to be reflected in the Majors. The Pro game is a joke and golf will suffer all round including many of the players and its overall standard. This will in time be reflected at club level. Nobody is interested in watching a bunch of part time business models walking around pretending to give a shit.

What incentive do the LIV Golfers have … it’s like multi-millionaires on welfare. The Saudi money for nothing thing and league split is a little off putting for many. AE you should know how hard it is to defend the masters. Many champs struggle the following year and only 3 have defended. The ridiculous salty behavior surely did not help but rahm is a big boy, he can handle that. We know LIv players shined last year at the masters and this year 3 of the top 10 were from the 13 LIv players. And keep in mind Oostheisen and Gooch and an on form Burmester playing his best golf did not get to play. I think at least one of those 3 would have had a top 10. Make no mistake, rahm who has not had the greatest LIv season Sans a win, will get back to winning on LIv and majors soon. Rahm will miss some pga tour events. He said that before signing. Bu he will also enjoy valderrama very much and would miss that if he left LIv. Rahm is fine. I think he had les people for political reasons but also because he was not in contention. Only one man gets huge crowds regardless. Everyone else is just another player. Let’s be honest here.

I absolutely agree with you. Yes, I don't like LIV, I don't like the format, the atmosphere, I think it lacks style (and why not, class!). I don't judge players for going to play there; in the end, it is their job and who wouldn't want more money for doing less. They have families and you can't go grocery shopping with a trophy. You need money and they certainly need a lot to keep their way of life. (Whoever is against that is just envious). But I think time will show that professionally it was a bad choice and if they wanted to leave a legacy in the history of golf, they took the wrong turn. 🤷🏻♂️
