Owen's family reaching out to the other fighter to wash the blood off his hands was so noble. He died doing what he loved, and they recognized that's a risk they all take fighting.

Very sad, l was a ex kickboxer in the day, in the early to mid 80s in Australia. I was good but not that good. I won a state title but retired after the fight because my wife at the time hated it and l had concussion for 3 to 4 days after the fight. He hit me that hard he concussed me at the start of the 2nd round, the rest of the fight l had blurred vision and saw 2 of him. I had a great job and kickboxing was just a hobby for me. May they R.I.P

I actually live near Sylva NC where Spencer Fisher currently resides, trained there a few times and it was awesome to train with him! But man, it was hard seeing him in that state. Sadly I think you’ll see a lot more Militech Fighting Systems Fighters experience brain damage after their careers end as it was somewhat normal for their teammates to randomly try and knock each other out for fun. Whether you were expecting it or not. I’m sure things are much different now knowing the damage that can come from a single loss of consciousness, let alone multiple.

I was looking to see if anyone had a comment like this...that's exactly the first thing I thought of, I can't say that the hazing or the mentality of the gym life is the only thing to blame...but it definitely didn't do him any favors..and it's for sure a highly contributing factor to his health issues, I'm glad the guy is still able to move about and such'..anybody that takes part in that kind of warrior workout..taking such senseless damage..in a place where you shouldn't be taking any damage at all, should be ashamed of themselves..and they're definitely not a warrior, but a bully...a brainless bully.
@ryancorcoran465

@@chrisdrawry926 I agree to a point I fought in trained at a high gym in the Midwest from 06 to 2009 and every time we spurred, it was a fight with headgear. Yes I don’t agree with it either. And it was considered normal.
@chrisdrawry926
@chrisdrawry926 Жыл бұрын
@@ryancorcoran465 I know absolutely nothing at all about training, so this is from the outside looking in...but I feel like the only injuries that someone training would get..would be from training too hard..pushing it too hard...not getting concussed or taking unnecessary damage to the head, how heavy someone spars would definitely depend on their level of experience, but i'd see no reason to have to spar anything above 60% or so, and like I said I'm no expert so..not sure if thats even too much or maybe not enough in some cases idk, and I mean I get it..i'm sure they want to be able to know that you know what it's like to be in that cage...but to me that's a bit silly when you can condition and train enough to endure things inside of the cage..without it taking years off your life and career, you'll either be ready for the octagon and meant to be in there..or you won't...I just dont see how that any amount of unnecessary damage to your head would increase your chances in a fight, seems like it would decrease it, you're only going to be able to absorb so many strikes.
@ryancorcoran465
@ryancorcoran465 Жыл бұрын
@@chrisdrawry926 I would say more like 75 to 80% when it comes to sparring. However, it wasn’t like that back then it was still a new sport and everybody in the gyms had something to prove. But I totally agree with you sparring to knock each other out is stupid and you got a remember. A guy is sparring minimum once a week times that by 52 times it by a 10 year career that’s a lot of head trauma.

The Fisher story should be how we know and think of the UFC every professional sport has been forced by legislation to provide safety, protection and healthcare to their athletes, except the UFC. Something as small as their gloves they refuse to get right. A former fighter developed gloves that protect the hands, and help keep fingers curled when in a relaxed state to help prevent eye injuries, yet when the guy refused to sell the technology to the UFC the Organization decided not to buy the gloves and let the fighter take the consequences. And look at Bisping for the consequences they don’t care to prevent

It ain't the ufc's fault. The hits you take in practice count too. Places like the lions den, millietich, or Brazilian top team going all out all the time is what destroyed their people. I trained with the lesser known High Deseret Hitmen in Elko, NV and we didn't spar or roll we just fought. Practice was 6 nights a week 2 hours of fighting followed by 2 hours of competitive grappling with strikes and if you asked to do actual drills instead of getting punched in the head more you were called a pussy.

Worst part of ufc is agro fighters hammer fisting a guy whos obviously knocked out , unable to defend and completely prone against the immovable floor! Getting one or two extreme gorilla/ hammer fists to the head... this is like a street fight attack by some drunk fool who kicks ya in the head when your knocked out. Your brain, irrelevant of whether you believe or not, is not meant to bang against your skull... thats why its surrounded by a fluid sac... they need to stop the fighters that do this. There are some decent dighters who stop once they see an opponent is out! Some, who deserve to be banned always hang on to submissions, always try to smash the face of obviously knocked out opponents. Stop their livelyhood and they will learn not to try destroying an opponents life and be happy with the win.

Kimbo was good at fighting guys that couldn't fight.he couldn't even win when Dana White gave him a bunch of chances and he lost every single time. The only ones he won or when he was fighting someone that should have been retired and even then he lost. Shamrock had to go to the hospital before the fight this guy took the fight on a day's notice and not come out in 14 seconds. Dana had it right when he said kimbo could not fight people who actually knew how to fight. He was only good in backyards and his hood every other place he went and fought in the backyards he lost but they didn't show none of those. I've seen all of the videos where he went to other places to fight in backyards and lost every time
