ER nurse here. This video is fucking on point. Thanks for making it. However, it absolutely CAN NOT be stressed enough; all of this equipment is about as useful as the tits on a boar hog if you don't learn how to properly use it. Don't just buy this stuff, LEARN HOW TO PROPERLY USE IT! Practice these skills, they are perishable skills. If you do not practice them, you will lose them & when you need them most is not the time to be trying to remember them. Be safe, be well, & be prepared. Hugs and love to you and yours folks.

My kit is in a blow out bag so you can rip it open. A swat T is a nice all rounder though takes some practice and you will need to hands to apply. Even though I'm in Texas I have a mylar blanket inside my kit. Blood loss leads to shock and you don't want to be loosing body temperature. Hemostatic gause or powder can literally be a life saver. It's a fair bit more than normal gause but when you only have home hand to work with it's a big help. Triangle bandages, chest seals and exam gloves are all stuff in my kit though that is usually not for self use. Go thru your kit regularly and remember the time to train is before you need it

So my kit is slightly different: I keep it in a spring latch cabinet on the wall, in case of need just hit the latch and it opens. No need to open any zippers. (My shop is small so I don't need it to be portable) I also have some instant wound bandage powder. Very useful in case of larger wounds. And something you didn't relate to at all - auto sos function on my phone. If I use it it immediately sends an alert to local emergency medical care and an ambulance is on its way with gps location and it even dials them on speaker so they can instruct me what to do until they arrive. Never had to use it and hopefully never will.

I keep a very similar kit in my work van, I also have a separate first aid kit for smaller injuries

Awesome video and great advice! I suggest adding tampons. They are individually wrapped and are perfect for what they do. This lets you swap the gauze rolls for flat trauma pads.

I've heard that before. Never tried it

Tampons don’t work for crap….. Source: me a former EMT, and the dozens of doctors that have told me the same thing while in conversations about penetrating trauma and major lacerations. EDIT: the extra gauze (if any after wound packing) is used to wrap around the apendige(ie: arm or leg) if possible. If not, pack as much more into the wound slap some 4x4’s on there and wrap tape around that at the top and bottom.

@@Ricochet845 while I do appreciate your perspective and respect your background, my own experience differs. For the environment I was in, they worked. Bottom line, IMO, is that each person should do their proper research to learn what they will need and how to use it correctly.

i like this, not overpacked because in an oh "f*ck oh sh*t is this meant to be red" situation you are panicking if your the one tending or the one injured and you need to know what you have and what it is

In my trauma bag(used to stay in my personal truck when I was an active EMT) I keep the following: 1 box of 4x4 bandages 2x 5x9” trauma pads(super 4x4’s) 1x Abdominal trauma pad(used for wrapping intestinal loops should they come out from an open wound) 6x different size of STERILE gauze for wound packing/wrapping of an open wound. All of then I believe are about 20 or 30 ft in length. 4x different size rolls of surgical tape. 2x chest seals (gotta plan for more than 1 hole in a sucking chest wound situation) 6x tourniquets or something equal to it (ie: blood pressure cuff) 5x trauma shears (1 in each side pocket and 1 in the main compartment) And a plethora of other medical stuff that might be needed for various other medical/trauma situations that I know how to use from my old EMT days. Like OPA’s or NPA’s and cpr masks.(again stuff from my former emt days) and most importantly… A RED OR BLACK SHARPIE to mark the time a tourniquet was applied. (Marker with each one) And a box of gloves should my skills be needed to help a neighbor.(any emt/medic can tell you everyone has some kind of germs you don’t want. Lol)

@@WyldeWoodworks lol it happens, my memory slips from time to time too, and I’m only 40… I need to take those memory pills but I forget what they’re called lol. But yeah, the time a tourniquet is applied is important info for the doctors for surgical or limb saving operations.

Cool video! My only question would be - why does this need to be in a bag? I would think since it's in a shop it could be in any kind of container - like something easier to open with one hand. Maybe I am missing something or missed something. Maybe this is for on the go too.. but you could have 2 different packs as well.

That's true! I keep mine in a bag because it go's with me on chainsaw trips but you can put it in whatever container you think is best for you😁
