During the First World War, the desire arose to erect a large church in honour of the Virgin Mary, making a solemn vow to put an end to the. Cardinal Ferrari was called to bless the foundation stone of the new sanctuary, which was built close to Lake Como and the main church in Lecco (Italy). The new shrine was consecrated on 5 November 1932 by Cardinal Archbishop Ildefonso Schuster, although the work had not been fully completed. A beautiful altar was dedicated to the Virgin in the second chapel on the left, with an exceptional painting from 1530.
