I love the way Death is portrayed in this. She’s kind to those she takes and not the scary Grim Reaper. Neil’s writing of her was amazing.

Tagging this here, as it was the pre-episode discussion, but I found it really interesting that the Fates helped Dream recover the Ruby. There are a number of mentions in the show about how the beings who inhabit the world, from the Fates, to the Endless, even Lucifer and his demons have rules they have to abide by. Quite likely the Fates were restricted from telling Dream exactly how to recover the Ruby/the power inside of it, or interfering directly. But they understood that there was no way that Dream could get the Ruby back from John after he altered it, so they gave John a 'fate' which told him what needed to be done, ie. destroy the ruby. But rather than telling John it would lead to his downfall, they phrased it in such a way that he would want to do it, because he thought it would allow him to destroy Dream, rather than the truth which was, destroy the Ruby and Dream will recover his power. And it reminds me of of episode 2, when Lucienne tells Dream that the Fates are, essentially tricksters. 'They never tell you what you want to know, only things you should never know.'

great point that I agree with all the way. You could term them the big bad of the whole story, but I think of them more of a force multiplier for the misguided and the true enemy.

If I remember correctly, it's clearer in the comics that Hob did get out of the slave trade.

Per the Wiki: “Hob attends a Renaissance festival with his African-American girlfriend Guenevere and reminisces guiltily about the slave trade. Disgruntled by the inaccuracy of the event, he spends most of the afternoon drinking in a derelict tavern….”Yeah- Hob got his shit together, and got out of the slave trade, but as I recall he told Guen some really unsettling stories that will be interesting to see if, and how they choose to adapt if this series makes it to that point in the original series. Hob is a favorite, and as best I recall we last encounter him having a dream where he meets up with Morpheus, and Destruction on a beach before waking with Guen. I hope they get to tell all of the over-story, Anthony and that I live to see it! Cheers- Jameson ⏳🎩🫀🪝🐠🗡️📖

They were the real Fates, yes. They show up a lot in many different ways throughout almost all of Gaiman's works.

It's not clear here because they used the same actress and name, but the Constantine here is _an ancestor_ of the one we met three episodes ago; in the books it was John in the present and Lady Johanna in the past, which made it much clearer. Personally I'd rather they'd used different names, for instance Jenna Constantine for the XXI century one, but maybe they thought that'd be even more confusing.

The Sound of Her Wings is close to my favorite Sandman stories. And I was really unsure how I'd feel about the iconic look of Death being so different... but I adore Kirby Howell-Baptiste and if anything I now like this version more.

Episode 6 is absolute perfection. Like you said, it is a palate cleanser and just so needed. I absolutely loved death, because when it is my time I'd definitely want a kind entity taking me to where my soul is meant to go. And of course, Desire steals the screen whenever they are on. Casting Mason Alexander Park for Desire was beyond perfection.

I really loved death in this episode. Although it’s heart breaking to see her do her work it’s also really gorgeous and peaceful. She is there for people and cares about all of them and no one fires alone. There is comfort in that.

The thing is, if you run away from Death... that's where ghosts come from.

It’s not Death that makes the choice of who dies. They don’t really explain it but she is more like a psychopomp, an entity that escorts you to the afterlife. They aren’t the cause, they’re just the escort. But she is allowed to NOT take someone, under certain circumstances. If it were my time to go, I’d rather have a kind escort than a cold or cruel one. Death has always been my favorite after Dream himself.

She can decide, she is Death/Life everywhere at everytime. She can make someone immortal or take someones Life. She is not bound to the same rules as her siblings
