Remarkable teachings intended for meditation and for cutting through delusions!
The Words of Old Tcheng first appeared in the French journal, Etre, in 1974.
Where this text first originated and at what time are unknown. It was given by a Buddhist monk in the form of a written document to a Frenchman who was visiting Indochina.
Indications of style suggest that it may belong to the school of Zen founded by Hui Neng, the 6th Zen patriarch.
French paraphrase of the original Buddhist text by J. Garillot (1974), translated by Else van den Muyzenberg.

Jared Marshall "Old man Tcheng used to live across the street from me and would always get up early in the morning to steal my newspaper." Hey Jared, I accidentally deleted your very funny comment from this thread when I went to reply and do some emojis of laughing faces and didn't know what I was doing and clicked the wrong button. Anyhoo, love it - ha ha ha ha aha! 😊 😊 😊

I am relieved to see that someone else has brought attention to this Old Man Tchengs character- after listening to this - I am pretty sure he is some sort of mind hacker’ How else could he go on and on with the details of my private, silent, still mind? Oh, ohh- Hey, Im gonna go have another listen - lovely to bump into people here- ❣️

What a punch in the stomach the teaching of Old Man Tcheng is!!!!! To all of us who seek here and there, to all of us who pretend to be this and that... ..."and with a graceful pirouette, Old Tcheng disappeared.." Dear Samaneri Jayasara, no words can thank you enough for sharing all that.

Man, this was brutal lol. Old man Tcheng just roasting people for an hour. This was really cool though. I didn't know the term "Original Spirit" was used in Buddhism. And the analogy of the moon's reflection in the water was wonderful

Why is this powerful
@swingtradingpsychology
@swingtradingpsychology Жыл бұрын
@@vijayaranha9018 it points directly to the nameless without having to go through the spiritual jargon and the politically correct rituals. It goes as far as ridiculing those who play the game of spirituality in a powerful and funny way. The '' truth'' has a direct path, you don' t need rituals, wise masters, prophets, monks, prayers, meditations or anything else. '' original spirit'' is here and now nothing can be said about it, this is the end of the story!

By forcing a label on this teaching, you have objectified a direct knowing into a concept, a thought in your head. you’ve made the boundless universe contract into a tiny, ephemeral flickering.
@ParityASMR
@ParityASMR 5 ай бұрын
@@Mountain_DhammaYes! This kind of labeling is like making one's mind into a pimple on a pimple within the chaos of differentiation. This is the constriction caused by the struggle of conceptualization. It is like cramming one's self concept into a clown car in one's own mind. Even the old man says that original mind cannot be bridged through the thoughts of others. Of course that is so when even our own thinking can be like an obstruction when we see ourselves as a divided entity within. Parity is found in stillness and teachings are more effective when we stop analyzing and vivisecting them with expectation and fantasizing about imagined prerequisites for original mind. It is like realizing the sunlight illuminating the whole tree instead of identifying with and swinging within it's tiniest branches.

How i loved this Ajahn,This resonates so close to truth...It literary strips you of everything your hanging on to. How we get trapped into such pettiness and subtle impulses and than beg for freedom and release that we have self imposed on ourselves......How can one free himself but with humility.,This talk i will cherish for some time.......Thank you for this discourse...

I really appreciated this, exactly the right ear for it today. For me it's probably the most profound negation of all the tricks of our identified minds and the irony is that mine is trying to many of the things he warns of now like ,let me find out more about him etc. . Wonderfully read and the background music fitted so well thank you so much Samaneri your a treasure

I know it's just a way to jolt the audience out of their comfort zones so they will listen, but it's pretty amusing how he insults his audience in about every paragraph. Charming in a way. He is about as grumpy with his fellow monks as my father-in-law was with me. Not wearing robes I feel that I safely avoid many of the arrows flying at his audience, so I am quite receptive to his message, while all those monks are squirming on their meditation cushions and waiting to escape from the withering storm of his excoriation.
