Magical toy, I still play with mine. My mate Mark had an old catalogue from the late 60's that showed an unimaginable (in 1978) range of track and accessories that didnt exist at that time. My 400 set was probably my favourite ever Christmas present! Thanks mum and Dad.

We were so addicted to Scalextric that we had the racetrack extended with sicains poll positions etc almost permanently layed out in the living room....my favorite was the all black Lotus JPS which could turn faster with McLaren and Ferrari almost as good...we were 7 of us 5 Greeks a Scotch and an American (international haha) a funny Greek schoolmate went secretly in the kitchen and put some olive oil on the truck........to counter act I put some flour you can imagine what the living room looked like in the end.......in fact we were so absorbed that one evening we forgot we had an appointment with some chicks to go to Top Rank disco till one of my schoolmates opened the door and one of them stepped in and found me laying on the floor trying to overtake a Brambham and a 6 wheeler Tyrell......she put her hands in her waist and shouted......."we want to know where we stand".........those were the days!!!

I think scaletrix lost the plot when the track connectors drifted from the classic button and the other smaller scales appeared. The drift to digital was another weird move. It’s a toy that’s just fine leaving in it’s classic old format.

I I got my first set at 8 which was second hand with rubber track and plastic cars. I bought a digital set and extended it with cars and "feature track" but all of the Scalextric I have ever used has suffered from connection failures between track pieces and getting a temporary track to work for its full length has been a problem. I joined a slot car club and raced on a permanent clubhouse wood track and kit made cars from the US when I was 11.

Many companies can learn a lot from scalextric's allowing compatibility with older versions. 👍

Loved my Scalextric 200 set when I was a child! I remember getting it exchanged when I wrote a letter to the company highlighting some of the problems I was having with it. Developed an interest in Formula 1 after that, and playing with one at a mall in 2013 at Christmas brought back some great memories!

I had about 40 m of Scalextric track and about 20 cars when I was a kid... I regret that I sold it.

The Micro Scalextric series reminds me of the Aurora slot-car racing set we had. It looks like a similar scale. Ours was 'endorsed' by James Hunt, so it must have been around 1976-77. Love your vids - bringing back so many memories!
