Hi and welcome to the worst day of my life so far. This was an extremely hard video to edit and re-live, not to mention to put on the internet for all to see... The Australian bushfires are far worse than what we see on the news or on social media. I hope that this video will help to spread awareness that bushfires are no joke and not to be taken lightly. Always have a plan in place and be safe. I understand so many people had far worse experiences than us on this day, and also lost their homes, but this is just our experience. Love you guys so much!

@@MasterYourOwnDestiny You're very right. God is coming very, very soon. After the Rapture (all those who are saved will be taken to Heaven) all hell will break loose and the whole world will be judged by war, natural disasters (even more so than now), and all kinds of bad things. My heart is so heavy for those who are lost. I hope everyone can accept God's free gift of Salvation. He doesn't want man to go through all of that judgement. He gave His Son, Jesus, to pay the penalty for our sins (die on the Cross) so that we do not have to go to Hell! He loves us that much!! God bless you all.

I need to address the comments that are saying how irresponsible it was that she didn’t leave and get out sooner. Yes, the message that has been spread surrounding dealing with bushfires is to leave. And yes that message has been effective in saving lives. It was not a bad decision that she chose to stay. It would’ve been advised from the CFA to stay near the water. She did the right thing. I was caught up in the Mallacoota fires and we were advised to stay because of our proximity to water and the roads were deemed unsafe to travel. Please stop shaming her. Whether you choose to leave or choose to stay, the fire brings anxiety, devastation and grievance for people, animals and beautiful land. Please have compassion, please grieve with us and please help us rebuild.

It is perfectly reasonable to point out that she didn't do this very well. That is how people learn. They ignored warnings all morning. They knew that the fire was heading towards them. Then the sky was red, there was ash on the road, crazy strong wind, and she is literally engaging in non-essential travel to go out to breakfast? Ofcourse people are driving crazy- there are always fatalities from crashes in a fire- not good, but why go out into that to go get breakfast? It was just like before the black Saturday fires, and she drove home with it getting darker instead of straight to the beach? They go back to the house, and her partner puts a sprinkler out, but neither of them are even dressed in thick clothes, let alone fire proof clothes. No wet towels, no pulling down curtains, etc. By chance they had a satellite phone, which is really good. Glad they were listening to the radio. But she packs slowly, and none of it is water or food really(a mango). Meanwhile they keep separating, he goes visiting everyone on the street, and then they finally evacuate to the beach so late that they were lucky it wasn't worse. Some fire fronts they would of suffocated. In reality they are just lucky, and they are okay because the fire wasn't so bad, not because of good management. Would most Australians do any better? Probably not... but isn't that a problem worth discussing? Isn't it better that people try to work out how to do better in case they find themselves in a worse fire?

Hi Tori, A little tip from a former firefighter: Don't put all the water on the fire at once, because it won't land on top of the fire. Instead: Small splashes of water. Also, if you ever got so unlucky that find yourself in a house fire, you must get out of the house ASAP. For every 60 seconds a fire doubles in size. Don't try - In an enclosed space - to think that you can pass a small patch of fire., because you probably won't survive getting to a door just a few meter away due carbon monoxide, and cyanide poisoning. 1 breath of that and you're dead! Hitler's henchmen used cyanide in his extermination camps - it's that dangerous - kills in a few seconds.

Maybe I'm a bit late, but I just wanted to say a few words. My happiness that you guys are alright is beyond measurable. It's the first time I see you, on this vlog, but I felt attached to you from the moment the video started. You have a heart of an angel. Seeing people evacuate and drive like crazy literally looked like a shot taken out of post-apo movie. Also, what you did might not be the brightest thing to do, but I think you shouldn't blame yourself for that. I haven't gone through the awful things you did (as showed in the video) but I think I can understand you in that term as you were so calm, but still knew what was happening. It's a coping mechanism that isn't very good, but it is how it is. Sometimes you realize that "it is the end of the world", but can't process it and it doesn't get to you. I love how people didn't forget of their animal friends, because unlike human species, they aren't as understanding of what is happening, don't have the opportunity to move so fast (as we have cars) and they don't know about the danger that early (as you received the warning that morning). And I have to say, I had the chills half of the video. When you showed how dark it really was, it hit me. But when you had to put down the fire near the car, I felt that. Same when you were worried for Clay, as you didn't see him driving behind you at first. And the moment I saw the fire surrounding you I started crying. In theory I knew you are fine, because the video was much longer, but I was so scared that you would drive into fire, because how little you could see from smoke, that I couldn't look at it. And last, but not least: Thanks to all people who tried their best to rescue wildlife, to firefighters (angels and literal legends) and thank you, Tori, for recording this video and publishing it. I can't imagine how hard it must have been for you to go through all of this again, but as a European, I realized what it really was, as media don't show it like you did. The Earth is about to die, and Australia is standing in fire showing us what will happen if we don't take care of our planet now.

Never ignore an emergency warning. These fires aren`t the old-style fires anymore they move rapidly, generate their own wind systems (pyrocumulus clouds) and have ember attacks which travel 20km ahead of the firefront. Glad you are ok!

We were close to the nelson fire and I can tell you I was ready to leave anytime after we got the first pre-evacuation warning, and there was only faint ash in the air. There is no way that I would have stayed long after an evacuation warning, especially knowing that the grass was as dry as tinder and the fire could travel really fast.

A week ago it was half a billion animals dead. Now it’s estimated OVER ONE BILLION ANIMALS HAVE DIED! I’m knitting blankets and sending them to Australia Red Cross all over the country. I live in England, so it’s all I can do. It will take about 5-14 days to get there though. If you have about £3 spare, you can buy a blanket and send it away to Australia to help an animal. Don’t give me hate for saying this, because it’s just an idea for people around the world who have a lot of money to use towards donations.
