My mom was born in 1921 and grew up near the Lemp, in Soulard. She swam in that underground pool as a small child. She said they would let the neighborhood kids in. There is also a story told by the mansion next door to the Lemp mansion, the Chatillon DeMenil, that they took a geologist down in the caves to see a rock formation. He stopped at a certain spot and would not go further. He said that there was something down there, and turned around and went back. I belonged to a paranormal group and got a great EVP at the Lemp. We also got an EVP in the DeMenil, as we looked at the bricked up tunnels in the cellar. One of our guys said, "I would love to go in those tunnels." The EVP said, "They're blocked, go back." I have never gone down in the caves, except for the spook house. Fascinating video!

This is one of the best videos of the Lemp Caves I've seen, from entrance through the pools to the stage to part of the Cherokee Caves. All shot well in HD so the details are crisp. Also awesome seeing high up in the silo. I can't help but feel a bit jealous, but I'm glad and thankful you two were able to film it and film it well. Keep up the good work!

A big thank you goes to the property owners for allowing filming. When I saw that small cement steps in the underground area I wondered who could have been the last person to have used those. It appears like the owners are working on renovating the property. If so, they have their work cut out for them. I'm going to share this vid with a Facebook friend who is a brewmaster in Canada.

I had to go read the history of these caves. Very interesting. At one time they excavated the clay in the caverns and found 3,000 fossils for the natural history museum. Other facts I found. The pool was heated. The trench in the floor was there to drain excess water from the caves. Those tall shafts you looked up were ice shafts. They would dump large quantities of ice into the caverns to bring the temp down for the brewing process. Cool video. I always enjoy learning obscure history.

That brewery is an architectural marvel . To be still standing after 150 years . Especially all of those bricks . Over time , the mortar in between the bricks starts to disintergrate. Usually around the 100 or so year mark . Does St.Lois have a consistent climate ? No major freeze and thaw cycles ? And below the buildings , the Lemp and Cherokee caves are strange indeed . Why were they built ? Imagine back then how hard construction methods were . What does the future hold for this property ? Is there going to be funding to bring them back? I hope so, it would be a shame to let them go . Thank you for taking us along on this journey back in time . Happy, Happy Halloween! 🎃

I've done so much reading of the Lemp stories yrs ago.. said he also had a bowling alley down there and him n his friends had parties with prostitutes and one became pregnant for him but was born with down sdyrome and was kept in the attic of the mansion. He divorced his wife in 1909.. and 1915 remarried but ended up depression and killed himself. His brother Charles moved in the mansion with two severants and the his brother child in the attic, which he died at age of 30 , sadly was buried at the lemp cemetery with only single marker saying Lemp. And Charles ended up killing himself from certain mental issues with his dog..sad, lonely story of a family with wealth but no happiness really..thank u and Jessica for sharing this underground..it was spooky, and yet lot history..

8:52 note the blueish tint to the ceiling? The Lemp family painted the sky on it for the theater and swimming room.

I never knew there was Lemp Mansion caves. You learn something new all the time. It was creepy but very cool in there. I was getting Goonies vibes in there. Thanks for taking us along with you.

That was mind blowing!! It gave me chills. The best ever!! My sister Rebecca Pittman wrote the book “ The History and Haunting Of Lemp Mansion “ I was fortunate enough to sleep in one of the rooms while she was doing research for it, and the chandelier kept flickering on and off when she asked were any spirits around!!! I slept with one eye open after that! Thank you for this. You two are awesome! 👏🏻👏🏻❤️
