OMG! And I say this as someone who grew up in Richmond, Virginia; attended college and took part in protests, there, in the 1970s, and went to medical school, there, as well! I am so shocked and ashamed! Not for myself, but for my hometown of Richmond. I had thought the end of the era of big tobacco would give Richmond a fresh start on many levels, but clearly Richmond's Justice Powell left a legacy that grows like a traitorous cancer on American democracy.

Thank you sir for actually doing something to protect our democracy.

I am so grateful for the exhaustive work of this great Senator. If I've ever had doubts as to the GOP's downright anti-american perfidy, Senator Whitehouse's research has cleared them up. Our system is under a serious, sustained attack by well-organized, corporate entities and their lawyers. The GOP in it's current form should be dissolved for sake of our democracy. It has gone rogue.

I wish to add a remarkable fact that I'd neglected in my earlier comment: Lewis Powell was obviously so "proud" of his secret memo that he forgot to mention it to his authorized biographer. Not surprisingly, this secret Report, as Senator Whitehouse had said, was never brought to the attention of the Judiciary Committee and, of course, was kept under wraps when the nomination came to the full senate. Remember the nominee Douglass Ginsburg who withdrew his nomination from consideration to SCOTUS because he had smoked a marijuana cigarette in college? Compare this "horrible crime" to Powell's Truly Horrific Secret Report, if you please.
