Welcome to episode two, season three of science at home. In this episode we explore the magic traveling flame and learn how to relight a candle using its smoke trail.The smoke from a candle contains vaporized candle wax and when a flame is introduced to the smoke, the magic of the traveling flame occurs. The flame follows the candle wax filled smoke trail back to the wick, relighting it. At the end of this video you will be able to explain the Magic Traveling flame and why you can relight a candle through its smoke trail and what the products of combustion are.

Hi, what is the reason the fire transfer down to the source and not upward. As when you interfere the smoke with fire, there is a little smoke left on the top....

I have seen people perform the experiment using a candle that has been put in the fridge and compare it to a room temp candle. Why is that?

why are you using aluminum foil to extinguish the flame?
@TheSciGuys
@TheSciGuys 9 жыл бұрын
peacemaker2039 We used an aluminum foil square to extringuish the flame to prevent the smoke from scattering too much. We found if you blow out the candle with your breath, the smoke trail can scatter and the experiment won't work. Also Aluminum foil is heat resistant so it's a cheep and safe material to use.
