Jagad-guru Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda explains the science underlying the performance of kīrtana. He indicates that there is a frequency of consciousness, śabda-brahma (which is embodied fully in the personal feature of God, or Bhagavān), and this frequency of consciousness, which consists of attraction between large and small entities, is the basis of all physical matter, from the attraction between subatomic particles to the attractive force the Sun exerts over the Earth and other planets. Thus, if we perform kīrtana properly, we are effectively realigning ourselves with that frequency, coming back into contact with God within the substratum of all reality, reuniting with our source, which we have forgotten and strayed from while roaming endless saṁsāra since time immemorial.
