Myers Briggs types are scientific evaluation of your personality… or at least that’s how they’re sold. Turns out that they might be barely more scientific than your horoscope.

so interesting to see Luke reacting so strongly to how Corry's internal conversation works, I thought that everybody had them :')

Omg i cant imagine how Luke finds it so shocking and can’t understand Corry having conversations with himself

Thank you Corry for explaining your internal conversation that way! That's how I think through things and have conversations with myself as well!! It's nice to know others think that way too!

One of the most surprising things I experienced after taking psychedelics for the first time as that my inner monologue just stopped completely, and stayed silent for best part of a week before slowly reemerging. It was honestly freakier than the trip because it was happening while I was completely sober and it was such an alien way of interacting with the world. I could not remember a time when I had thought things in isolation, just pure thoughts, without words and value judgments attached to everything. I also found that I was way more sociable, relaxed and confident. After taking psychedelics several more times over a couple of years my monologue has permanently retreated and is now something I use only consciously when trying to articulate an idea or arrange my thoughts to get a task done. It just running spontaneously is something I now associate with states of anxiety when something external is praying on my mind. When I'm happy and relaxed my thoughts just float around as an integrated part of my consciousness without the need to be articulated into words and fed back to me. I find it a way more harmonious state of existence

I'm INFP. I see a lot of depression and anxiety related memes about INFPs lmao. also I once saw someone say that, it seems like there are so many INFPs despite them saying we make up a pretty small percentage of people, bc INFPs are the exact types of people who would take the test and talk about it lmao. that's obviously like theoretical and a joke but thought it was really funny

i rlly recommend people try the keys2cognition test, because it attempts to type based off cognitive function stacks rather that putting you in one of two boxes ! :D

with the internal monologue thing: I never talk to myself but I spend a lot of time in my head imagining conversations with other people, like a friend or a therapist lol. I'd say it's probably similar to corry's internal chats bc obviously I'm coming up with the whole conversation myself but I always need to imagine it's someone else

Love this! Proud little INFJ, the rare one apparently? I’ve done the test a few times and always get the same result ahaha

Interesting point with anxiety giving you a different result. I have ADHD and suspected ASD and a lot of my answers were informed by masking. As I understand more how I actually function and not how I present myself to the world, my personality type in the questionnaire changes

Me listening to corry explain his inner dialogue and just going “yeah that’s how everyone thinks isn’t it? ISN’T IT??”

Im totally the same as Corry with having a conversation with myself. A way of explaining it is like imagine people who aren't you in your dreams. You can still communicate with them and theyre different to you, but they are still you. You invented these people and its your brain running them.

I definitely do what Corry was talking about having a conversation with yourself. Especially when I am working through something that really stresses me out. One side sometimes acts like an interviewer helping me work through the scenario

Oooooh yessss a Freud episode! I would love that because he absolutely isnt scientific but definitely a big starting point for a lot of psychology.

I got INTP on the test. I find the theory interesting, but I also feel like there are a lot things that may sway the results. For example, someone with ADHD might lean towards more perceiving because they struggle with time management. Or someone with mental health issues might answer the Qs more towards introverted or intuitive depending on how nervous they are around others or how their depression might put them in a state of existentialism or seeing the bigger picture despite usually being more grounded or detail-oriented. I just think neurodivergence (among many other things) might play differently into it, but could be totally wrong, just been pondering it. I don't think the test is very accurate either but can be fun to take

INTP peeps assemble! Hahahha, I used to be really into mbti in school, was active in the intp and mbti subreddits and stuff... it's still fun to look at those sometimes but I try not to limit myself by what my type is supposed to be. I think as long as you treat is as a fun little "get to know myself a little more" activity it's fine, but I hate it when people live by it, then it just becomes another horoscope thing.

I think the biggest thing with MBTI and other personality tests like this is that they are descriptive, not prescriptive but is marketed, and thus viewed by the wider public, as prescriptive. You cannot use horoscopes, MBTI or even the Big 5 to predict how people will behave or act but it is useful to describe what you are and, as Corry said, reconcile how you think you are and how you actually are
