@@klinxium8627 Since I'm a gay man, I can only talk from my own experience and say for sure that it is no choice of mine. If we are being reasonable, however, sexual attraction is perhaps one of the most deeply ingrained impulses in the biology of any living organism, and it's certainly one of the oldest adaptations. Saying that we can change it on a whim of a choice is nonsensical, no matter how we look at it. We have trouble understanding how much choice we have in the most human of behaviours, let alone a set of behaviours that go back to our earliest vertebrate ancestors.

With 1 in 20 people being lgbtq+ (some data I found on the internet, its probably more) that makes perfect sense. If your immeiate past generation consits of 5 people you would expect a 25% chance of at least one of them being lgbtq+. For four people it would be 20%, three people 15%, two people 10%, one person 5%. It does not prove a genetic link at all, the 8%-25% counts for non-lgbtq people too.

There is even more. NPR talked to a scientist studying DNA and behavior connections. In the mice study they noticed 'plaques' that form on DNA as the mouse developed. They studied mice that received motherly attention and those who did not. This effected where plaques developed on the DNA and how social, empathetic a mouse was later in life. So environment can effect DNA and who we are. But still most of this is out of our control. Love the research you put into this episode. 🌈🌈❤️❤️🌈🌈

It makes a lot of sense to me that rather than the 'default' sexuality being straight, the default sexuality of humans (and possibly all sexual creatures) is actually being bisexual/pan sexual. I mean, part of a creatures quote-on-quote purpose is to reproduce, hence sexual desire. Which may lead one to believe being straight is the default, since it can lead to procreation. But considering homosexuality and bi/pansexuality is seen across many creatures, maybe the default is just being horny and our genetic quirks and upbringings influence whether we prefer one gender over others? Also, I found it interesting that there were much fewer lesbians than gay men in the pie chart (can't consider that an accurate representation of the world's population but still). I wonder if this is because females are more likely to consider themselves bisexual than males? In a way, many straight men (and possibly gay men) are more pressured by society to stick to being attracted to one gender. Obviously there are many bi/pan males and many lesbian and straight females, but it's just a thought. I wonder if many people have the potential to be bi/pan but societal standards and their own determinations have caused them to choose one gender over the other, and perhaps men are more susceptible to this (not that this is a bad thing, just a curiosity). Or maybe this is completely wrong and people are truly just born attracted to one gender over the other in many cases, I'm not sure. Sexuality sure is complicated huh.

@@bluecannibaleyes attraction is natural to human and animals. That's why alot of animals have a certain feature that the main purpose is to atract a certain animal. Both animals and humans have a chemical reaction that can occur when we are attracted to something. Both also have some specific things we do to atract someone or something. People are mad whenever they say that being homosexual is a choice, because people tend to say that you can change whom you are attracted to while they tend to say that you can't push a straight man to being gay. Which screams "being a hyprocrite". And the only inconsistency in here is people believes that this animal behavior is natural but not when humans do it.

First of all I'm gay, but I think one of the reason why being other than straight took so long to be accepted by older generations is because of the term "sexuality" it self. A lot of them seems to think that its inappropriate to educate children about LGBTQ+ because they think its all about sexual activity, instead of love/attraction.

Honestly. With gene therapy getting more research and stuff, I feel like there will be a point where you could change someone’s genes into being gay or straight, however by that point I think we (assuming we live long enough to get there) will be smart enough to understand the ethicality (or lack thereof) of doing that, and that won’t be the first thing that’ll come to our minds when we have that ability to really change someone’s genetics makeup.

I just love it when people say “Basic Biology” because... maybe they should be educated on more than just a ‘basic’ level because science... it doesn’t quite agree. Like, the only angle that ever makes a lick of sense is reproduction but you could make the same argument for infertile people or those who simply don’t want kids and not like everyone’s just going to start being Homosexual and other forms of Birth exist so I think we’re fine.

That was a lovely video, I'd have liked if the role of the environment in the expression of genes was mentioned, because it takes a really important role especially in such complicated genetic manifestations... I like the idea of identifying oneself with a historical figure, but it should be noted that the sexual orientations as we know them today probably weren't even considered throughout most human cultures and times, so I'd be better to say "they displayed this and that behavior and were REALLY cool" rather than "they were homo, bi, trans, etc and did this thing" because analysing historical figures through a modern day lens isn't quite adequate XD Very amazing video nonetheless

Umm... does nobody identifies as ace in the pie chart? We are truly the forgotten ones, even in a video like this. But in itself it is very well done and I’m so happy that finally someone made it so unbiased. On the other hand, I kinda worry it may give more tools to the homophobes. Let me explain: I come from a highly atheist country, and we have this news page where you have to use your actual name to comment, so only certain people are willing register. There are certain groups , mostly people who love debating about politics - usually very negative and conservative things - in the comments. It is not a very high number of people, as on even the most controversial topics there are about 2k comments max. So many of us go to the comments and read them out for fun, because people there are mostly the epitomy of a conservative boomer mentality (example: in an article about women who were born with certain conditions but are now modeling they wrote “I didn’t ask to see it” - even though they clicked and opened the article themselves - and “I don’t see the beauty in it” etc). Comments under lgbt related topics are no more positive really. But the difference is that unlike average religious people, because we are all mostly atheists, they use science to hurt us. I saw mayby 1 or 2 comments about sins, but mostly people used the terms “degenerates” or “abnormal people” to reffer to the lgbt community. So they know very well that sexuality is not a choice and is based on science, yet they use that science to hurt many of us. The worst part is, there is no actual way to dispute them, because the word “degenerates”, although in a very degrading way is actually true.... But hey, at least one of our most known youtubers, who even made an interview with Dalaylama is openly gay and is accepted by many, with around 820k subscribers. Also we do see some gay couples in media, and there are celebrities or their children who are gay, so no biggie really, that 1k people will always exist in every country. But I’m really worried about the use of the term “degenerates” and “abnormal people” as in to reffer to our genes..... It’s almost impossible to win that fight, because we are the minority....
