The strength of a blade can be influenced by the manufacturing techniques employed during its production. Various factors come into play, such as the choice of materials, the forging process, heat treatment methods, and the overall blade geometry.
This video introduces how the forging process affect the swords strength focusing on its crystal grain size.
Please note that following.
In reality, it is a more complex phenomenon. The simplified content in this video aims to share the scientific theory that is easy to understand by general public.
There are other interesting aspects to be considered that defines metal strengths, such as hardness, ductility, impact strength, low temperature brittleness and etc. These factors generally increase due to reducing the grain size. I hope you enjoyed this video!

There is another reason on why there might of been rumors of strong blades during the old ages. Usually the older a sword is the more curved it gets. The curvature basically makes it easier to cut and makes the edge alignment more forgiving. But again great video !! 👍👍👍
