The scale of the destruction and thievery is painful to contemplate. It would have been deeply traumatic for the general population. Thank you for shedding light on a rarely discussed subject.

It is for that reason I don't think I can watch this one, too depressing to think of such barbarity.

Superb stream. The dissolution of the monasteries foreshadowed the erasure of history in progress today. History is being erased and rewritten now. In the case of the monasteries, this was made even worse by the fact that Henry VIII was an English king and, thus, custodian of that history. Many thanks for such an interesting discussion AM and the venerable John Dee.

Henry coincidentally started caring about aggressively cleaning up (wiping out) the monasteries when Cromwell joined his team 🤔 Cromwell, the genius entrepreneur and leader of London’s reformation scene… Cash rules

The cultural and spiritual decline of the English is a process which has been happening for centuries and started with the reformation. Very intriguing and depressing at the same time. A great podcast you and Mr Dee made non of the less 👍

@@chase6579 How so, you think?
@chase6579
@chase6579 Жыл бұрын
@@boscochou9710 well because the temple in Jerusalem was literally the place you went to worship. It was the seat of God on earth. But as our Blessed Lord told the sumerian woman, very soon things would change. And his death and resurrection would be that change. I think that far more apt versus to reference would be either something out of the Lamentations of Jeremiah in reference to the reported fornications of the monks or something out of one of the other prophets which prophesied Israel's destruction. You could also go for one of the Psalms during the Babylonian exile as I think that that is a very apt comparison to Catholicism in England for the next 300 years. Of course depending on your intentions and if you really just wanted to give a direct quote from our Lord it would be far more apt to say that " heaven and earth pass away but my word shall never pass away".

I have also read Sybil by Benjamin Disraeli, and I enjoyed it heartily. (I am yet to read Coningsby or the other in that trilogy, whose title I forget.) I actually missed the bit where you named the book, but I broadly recognised the speech and rewound in order to confirm.

Fantastic work !! I would be very interested to know why it happened. The links in society, the reciprochal connections between the classes and the journey towards a goal ... must have been damaged bit by bit, apparantly unseen, before the decay caused the external collapse of this dissolution. To know those links that were damaged is important - a stitch in time saves nine. Also in relation to Spengler's the journey towards the prime symbol of the society ... and how that journey proceeded or was blocked. When the frenzy comes, very few have the sand to stand against it, most are washed down the river and partiicipate as if its a full moon. This reveals the fragile state of human beings. From "ancient times" two virtuous modes of operation are warrior courage or asceticsm .... and most of "history" concerns these two. Who killed, and how didn't kill. Who restrained and who didn't. And that is the state of human self understanding. It's primitive. I am sure the petty complaints of particular individuals, who's wife had the hump with them and so on, are in fact the true cause of their one day's whim of destruction. Mankind is not learning, and his means of sorting things out remain those two primitive poles. Nothing else has been learned. The species is challenged, it will most certainly perish here and perish finally, unless actual understanding emerges.

It wasn’t that the pope erred, but that Catherine had lied about her virginity. Funny enough, they had obtained 2 dispensations to be safe; 1 based on non consummation, the other used a different excuse, in case they had 😄
