I have spent the last few years heavily invested in archiving all things Seahorses, but this is without a doubt the thing I have been most excited about so far. This show in Co. Meath turned out to be the Seahorses final gig. They performed at 2:30PM and were part of a bill headlined by the Verve which also featured Robbie Williams, Manic Street Preachers, James and Finley Quaye.
The recording is well balanced but not perfectly clear at times. Nevertheless very listenable. Chris is enthusiastic and sings amazingly throughout the whole gig. 'What Can You See?' is an early version of Into The Light from the Minus Blue sessions. Amazing to hear this ! Hope you all enjoy as much as me.

I'm actually the one who unearthed and transferred this recording from the master cassette and released it into the world. Perhaps you received it from TheWalrusWasPaul but I released it from the master and first posted it on DIME a number of years back. Glad to see many people are still enjoying it. (Oh, I also took that photograph being used as the still, thank you for crediting me for that at the bottom of the post). Enjoy!

I was there!! I never knew until now that it was their final-ever gig! I remember John was UNREAL that day, I was so thrilled to see him in particular play, I kept shouting "The Unforgettable Squire!" Their set was the highlight for me, the Manics and The Verve were also great that day (although I missed Nick McCabe, his absence was keenly felt). Robbie Williams also played (he was surprisingly very good that day, pulled out every showman move under the sun and won the (huge) crowd over, and an Irish band called Junkster also played. I also remember being struck by how confident and self-assured Chris Helme had become as a frontman. Thanks so much for uploading this City in the Sky 99 you wizard!

Kind of interesting if you think this was the last gig for the seahorses and the verve as well Kind of bittersweet But thank you for this upload I just got yesterday after my university exams into the seahorses and can’t wait to learn those songs on my electric! Thank you so much!

I was at this. In the disabled section as my 🦵 was broken at the time. Met chris helme on my travela as vip area was beside disabled section. He signed my shirt. Lovely fellow.

Cheers!! Was at V98 festival 2 weeks before and the lineup was similar. Guess it was Britpop's last hurrah and last time I saw the Seahorses.

I have a recording of the Robbie set, along with the sets of all bands who played that day. In fact, it was me who transferred this Seahorses recording from cassette and released it into the world even though the poster has credited someone else with doing so.

@@matunahuel95 I have it on cassette, but it may take me some time to transfer it. I also have a a cassette of a Robbie show from Dublin's Point Depot in January 1999.
