I highly doubt Jinshi’s trying to devalue Maomao. Most likely, he has a suspicion that the courtesan that Lakan is talking about is connected with Maomao, and he’s trying to find out something about Maomao’s past without letting her know that he’s poking around.

It would make no sense for Jinshi to want to devalue MaoMao, one because whatever technique Lakan is referring to (likely sex/pregnancy) would only devalue her in the sense of purchasing her from a brothel, which Jinshi has already done. Two we've already seen Jinshi try to raise her value by making her a court lady, it just happened to fail. He only keeps her with the freckles look because he's jealous of how the other men gawk at her otherwise. Lakan strikes me as the type of person to say one thing and imply/mean 2 or 3 others at the same time, so Jinshi is curious because he wants to figure out what Lakan is really getting at. Asking MaoMao to solve this reeks of setup, Lakan doesn't care about the outcome of the metalworkers too much, and might have put the dad up to making the puzzle. Jinshi is smart and knows Lakan is plotting something else and knows the answer to the devaluing of the courtesan is important. Most likely he's suggesting he's MaoMao's biological father or suspects he is, and he's testing MaoMao with different puzzles since she arrived to see how clever she is.

4:14 the translation about the key is misleading. The 2nd brother said the key cannot enter the keyhole, but it is translated as the key does not fit. Makes you think that they key is not for the chest, but it is the key for the chest. It just cannot go in for some reason. We later find out why it cannot go in.

as much as I hate saying this, it seems the Netflix translation is more accurate than the Crunchyroll translation. Everytime I watch reactions using crunchyroll translations they're either wrong or use words that don't fit the context of the story. Netflix translations are more accurate and feels like I'm watching those fan subs where they just translate the original script into english. edit: the downside is that you need to get netflix and I'm not sure if some titles are available in the US. I learned from my cousin that most of the shows we watch here in asia are unavailable in the US version of netflix.

You can't just kill him. There's a part in the manga where the emperor considers doing something, but then says "I would not want to upset Lakan". The freaking emperor prefers not to upset Lakan.

From the post-credit, Jinshi want look less attractive (like Maomao) to go in the "red light" district discretly without catching everyone attention (he is very beautifull by their standard). Based on the same part Maomao seen to be the one wearing the lipstick, the arrangment/cut is misleading (most likely on purpose to tease the buzz)
